p.1 #1 · Eagles around LD 14 between Iowa and Illinois
Greetings!
Here are a few (14) photos of the Eagles located in and around Lock and Dam 14.
Lock and Dam 13 has in excess of 800+ eagles fishing under the dam, however, it's very difficult to shoot them over two locks and above an eight foot fence.
Lock and Dam 15 has some 200 eagles fishing under the dam. Generally, this location is difficult because you are shooting right into the sun in the morning, but some shots can be gotten.
Lock and Dam 14 is probably the best place to photograph eagles, there are about 45 eagles resting in the reserve down river of the dam. The Corps of Engineers cut down a couple of the trees that the migrating eagles used to rest in and watch for fish. IMHO, this has affected the eagles.
These shots were taken between the 3 locations.
I will be providing my "Yearly Hotdog and Chili Day". It will probably be in mid January and at LD 14. All are welcome and it's free.

Hey Larry, It's really a shame that the public doesn't have better access to L&D 13. If us photographers and birders would get together and petition the Core of Engineers to allow us to use one of the closer piers maybe they would open up some of the area for photos. Just a thought. It gets really crowded when the Eagles are fishing.

Great set as always! I stated over on Friday and turned around due to rain, fog and no visibility. Iced out today and have another commitment tomorrow. I am dying to get over there and rock this new 1DX.

That is amazing. I am going to get myself to this spot some day, but in the mean time thanks for sharing! This seems like it may be the best spot in the country for seeing baldies...

Very nice series. Nice variety of flight and "posed" images. I especially like your shots of the juvenile(s). Wow.... a whole lot of Bald Eagles in the same place!!
