Well, part of the problem is I would like to have less adapters on my primary kit. If I get a macro lens, then it can be of any mount, since I will not carry it around that often, but having 3 different lenses with 3 different mounts as it is right now is far from great, esp. since I try to keep weight down in order to take that combination with me and not leave it home. I can do with two lenses so 24/28 and 85/100 is ok by me, but sharp at 5.6, decent in the center at 2.8 and of possible not that CA prone would be nice....Show more →
get a tokina 90/2.5 macro or the vivitar version in OM mount, they'll be sharper than the any of the olympus lenses with the possible exception of the 90/2 and give you macro too.
i didn't particularly care for the OM 85/2 when i had it (on a NEX), but the size is excellent. from what i've seen from the OM 100/2.8 it is an average performing lens for that speed focal length at a very compact size.

Sebboh,
That lens (the Tokina) is available in a number of mounts—is your recommendation to slungu re. fining one in an OM mount only about minimising adapters? Or are there other considerations?
I have not heard much about this lens, but there are a few on evilbay presently, along with a Vivitar version, which I assume is the same lens.
I got together with another FMer this morning at a local coffee shop, so I could try some of my lenses on it; of course I fell in love with the camera... I tried the OM 50/3.5 macro on a tilt adapter; from previous experience (a few images posted here) with the same setup on a NEX 6 this combo can make unique images. It's a piece of cake to focus, too; the MF aids are really well executed on the A7s, in my view.

the recommendation for the OM mount was just for slungu to avoid too many adapters, there isn't any difference i'm aware of between the lens on different mounts.
btw, were there coverage issues using the 50/3.5 with tilt on a FF camera?

@ sebboh: none at all—surprisingly. I will process and post one image tomorrow, to give you an idea (shot wide open, too). Tilt really opens up huge creative possibilities, and reverse tilt I find really interesting, too.

I am really regretting selling my Alt lens set when I sold my 5D years ago. Now I find myself buying some back to use on my A7r - luckily most are not much more expensive. One of my favorites was the 21/3.5 - but I remember that I bought about 4 of them before I found the perfect one - they varied widely. I also had an 18mm, and it was very nice too.
I am impressed by all these 21 and 24 samples on the A7/r. So, I am looking for a really good 21/3.5, but in the meantime, I have a 24/2.8 and an 18mm on the way to me. After being disappointed with <50mm M lenses on the A7r I am settling on the following as a standard kit:
OM 18/3.5
OM 24/2.8
OM 28/2.8 (Ultimately, I will likely end up with Contax 28/2.0 Distagon or maybe a Elmarit-r V2)
CZ 35/28 Distagon
50/90 M lenses - or a Summicron-R if they prove to be disappointing in the long run
Also, I know it has been asked earlier, but it would be greatly appreciated if someone can post some samples of the OM 18 on the A7 or A7r. If it has smearing problems I'll may shift to a 21/3.5 and skip the 18 and 24...

I am banking on the OM 24/2.8; I will get a chance to catch up with Philip from here again (we met last week in a great coffee shop) and I will try out the 24 then. I had it with me, but forgot to try it!
Re. portrait lengths: I think the CV 90/3.5 macro or the 75/2.5 Heliar look good. OTOH, if either the OM 85/2 or the 100/2.8 test well, they are options too. Merry Christmas everyone, Kit

OM 28/3.5 seems to be quite a well liked lens and mine's been fantastic so far on full frame EOS and the basic Fotodiox adapter (used since October). You may like it better than the 2.8 version, it seems quite sharp corner to corner.

Excellent pano. I bet the full size version is stunning. This lens has a great reputation - just found an unused SC one in original packaging which is now on its way to join my OM 21/3.5 SC and OM 28/2 MC which, along with the MD 35-70/3.5 macro will make a very compact kit with the A7.

Does anyone have the 135/2.8? I ordered one from KEH along with the 24mm, I figured for $105 it was worth a shot for a focal length I love on FF. What is the point in having an adapter for only one lens anyway!?
I have the MC version, and it performs very well on the Fuji X-E1.

These are crossposted, but I must say that the OM 28/2 is an incredible lens. It gets fairly low scores in lab tests, and I understand that, because it needs stopping down to get high resolution across the frame. But the colors... Just damn!

Thank you, the biting sharpness is there and the lightweight plus compact form makes it a good one to have around

Is it worth finding a sample with macro adapter? Seems like that gets you to 1:1 but then you are also stacking adapters.
"Remarkable contrast at larger apertures, high resolution at expense of contrast stopped down, with moderately low to moderate contrast by f/16. Remarkable performance at f/4. One of the sharpest Zuiko lenses."
