Doug, your airshow images have continued to be amazing...
Thank you very much Joshua! I will gladly trade my planes for your models. Big airshow on Oct 2-4 in Huntington Beach. I have never been to that one. You should check it out if you aren't traveling that time. Look at the lineup, holy smoke! I think it has the strongest lineup in the whole county this year.

I don't think the US Navy EA-18G Growler 2-Ship Demo should be on this list anymore. They had the horrible accident two weeks ago in Idaho, it was a miracle that the 4 crew members were able to safely eject under the circumstance.
A few more from last Friday in Atlantic City. Saw the Polish MiG-17 again.

Fabulous photos, thank you. It did make me wonder, why is it the propeller driven aircraft are the most handsome (to my taste, at least)? Mustangs and Spitfires in particular, but there are others as well. Is it the way their wings seem to balance them in the air, as if they could stay aloft with almost no assistance ... ?

I almost gave up photographing propeller planes because it's so hard to get sharp images at such low shutter speed. I think my keeper rate is probably 1%. But it's very rewarding when I get a good one. The modern aerobatic planes are fun to watch because they do crazy maneuvers but I rarely photograph them anymore. I am more into photographing warbirds now if I want to shoot prop. planes. Some of them are really classy looking. I went to Belgium last year for an airshow, the main draws for me were the F-4 Phantom, the Grippen, and the British lancaster. Unfortunately, the lancaster didn't fly due to mechanical issues.
Here are some of my favorite warbirds pictures from the last few years. The Japanese zero is a real one, not a replica, it's one of the few in the world that are still airworthy. The B-29 bomber "Doc" is one of the only two flyable B-29s in the world. I am sure I have pictures of the other one somewhere. There will be a warbird show this weekend, just 100 miles from where I live, the other flyable B-29 "FIFI" will be there too. I will try to make the trip. I thank the organizations/collectors that keep these old warbirds flying.

You keep doing it! These are magnificent. That Zero is a stunner. Even the bombers are handsome. Shame about the Lancaster. I think there's a complete central fuselage of one in the British War Museum which you are allowed to climb inside and inspect. I couldn't believe how narrow and tiny it is. The museum also has a replica of the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima -- it is scarily small, could just about fit in a wheelbarrow. So any of these bombers could have carried it and been just as lethal as their modern descendants.
PS I don't recognise the second last plane with the twin tail fins. Can you remind me what it is?

Thank you for the info, Doug! That's the weekend before another scheduled trip for me. Since it is in my backyard, it would be a shame for me to miss that show, huh? Again, another impressive set you posted there!

Thank you Rob. The second last plane is a Lockheed P-38 Lightning, over 10,000 were produced during WWII, the British bought some too. The most famous P-38 operation I can think off is the shootdown of Yamamoto's plane over the jungle in Pacific. That particular picture was taken 2 years ago in California. I believe this was my first time seeing one flying. I will have the opportunity to see one again this month at a show in Columbus, Ohio, if I can make it. They are pretty rare, unlike the P-51s.

Thank you Joshua! Not many people are as crazy about airshows as me but since the Huntington show is so close to you and will have such a fantastic lineup, it would be fun to check it out. You may never go to another airshow again if that's not your thing. If my schedule works out, I may go to San Francisco in October for the fleet week airshow. I have always wanted to photograph the Blue Angels with the Golden Gate Bridge in the back ground. I can't think of a more iconic airshow picture than that. Will see...
Some hummingbird pix from the last two days. The poor girl in the first picture got a bad wound under her left eye, probably from fight with other hummers. They are verry territorial and feisty little birds.
