Joshua -- You really nailed that "Blue Hour" in a vivid indigo vein! Very elegant mix of color and contrast.

Took the "new" Canon 20mm out to shoot against the Loxia 21. I'm not going to show a bunch of direct A-B comparisons here, but the net result was surprising: The Canon was noticeable sharper in the center 1/3 of the frame (super-sharp!), with the Loxia gradually asserting its strength toward the corners, where the Canon was weakest. The Canon is noticeably wider angle. Although this might not seem be the strongest testimonial for the Canon, the center sharpness, AF, and wider angle works in its favor to draw focus to a central subject. Pretty decent for a $250 used 20+ year old AF lens vs. a $1100 new design used premium Zeiss.
AF on the Canon was very accurate and snappy.
My initial impression is that in most shooting, I'm not going to see a enough difference be able to tell the lenses apart, except for 100% close scrutiny of their subjective strong and weak areas (neither is perfect). The surprising take-away is that the Canon is not a dud from the old film days, as its reputation seems to have influenced popular opinion. It's a keeper.

Thank you very much, Jim! That was captured during my last evening there; I waited until then to do it because it was raining the whole day and evening the day before. I figured, it couldn't be worse and it was, or at least the rain was equally heavy. Somehow the SRA obliterated the rain...
I am enjoying your images taken with that "old" Canon lens, Jim! Again, the rendition or IQ from that lens seems to be better now on the Sony sensor . At that magnification, I couldn't tell much, if any difference between that output of that lens and that of the Loxia 21mm. Well captured!
A few from Brooklyn Bridge Park, NY today. A7ii + Contax C/Y 180mm f/2.8.
The BQE (Brooklyn Queens Expressway) cantilevered roadway. This section of the BQE is crumbling due to road salt and age. Plans to replace this section are in heated legal debate. Renovations could endanger the Brooklyn Heights Promenade (top level) and cause MAJOR headaches for residents in Brooklyn Heights and beyond for the next 5+ years.
GM 100-400 may not be optimal for such small insects, the grasshopper is about 0.4 inches long and the image is not cropped anything, but should work well for larger dragonflies etc.
I really like the A9
Is better at all points against my A7rII
except picture quality and DR
I understand that A9 is made for other purposes so I'm really happy with purchase and camera
I will have A9 with me to Iceland as the second camera and will be interesting how it can make itself on the landscape. Well have no giant expectations but hope that it at least perform well
Just for landscape I should have been upgraded to A7r III instead of A9
I chose between these cameras when I bought
I reasoned that I thought I had a good camera for that purpose in the A7R II which works perfectly except battery life
I wanted a fast camera and the best AF that sony could offer so the choice fell on A9
