Jim, Charles, and Samuli...all incredible images!! Jim...do places that in your shot really exist?? It's soooo picturesque!! Very nice Lux shot... As always, Samuli, fantastic eye!
Hard to follow with pics like those above!

Thanks for the comments.Yes this place does exist. It is a local Metro park with an 1880s theme. It is well maintained and open to the public. Its not far from where i live so i stop on my way home from work often.Going back to this place year after year forces me to be creative and look for different ways to shoot the same subjects.
I have read opinions that one does not need to have an ultrawide lens if you have a shiftable 24mm lens.
I thought I might do a quick & dirty comparative study to see if that was true.
These three images were taken with the A7R on a tripod.
#1 17-40 at 17mm
#2 - 24 mm T/S 3 shift pano.
Both #1 & #2 before flocking the Metabones adapter
(Not equivalent but for interest's sake...#3 24 mm T/S 3 shift pano after Metabones adapter was flocked. (Different time & evening but more or less same place.... slightly better contrast.)
I find it interesting to see how the FOV horizontally is greater with the shifted 24 but the vertical FOV is quite a bit greater on the 17mm. The detail and the reduced distortion in the 24mm shifted image is quite a bit better than the 17-40 but these are very different perspectives and not really equivalent.
I think one can make a case for having both lenses in the bag.
At last I decided to give a go to some of my favourite alt lenses - Zeisses with C/Y mount. They are very strong contenders ,as they were previously on the FF Canons and NEXes,holding firmly their ground on the A7.No major flaws to speak of.Just a pure joy of picture taking.
Distagon 25/2.8 - some sharpness faloff towards corners wo,but at f8 nothing to complain about
Distagon 28/2.8 - my absolutely favourite 28mm lens. And it earns this armiration easily. The best 28/2.8 ever IMO.
Distagon 35/2.8 - a tad behind the 28/2.8,but still excellent piece of glass.
Tessar 45/2.8 - like other constructions of this size it lacks some sharpness and contrast wo,but stop it down to f5.6 and results are top notch.
Planar 50/1.4 AE - still a benchmark somehow for 50/1.4 lenses
Planar 50/1.7 - my favourite 50mm lens.Performance as expected - excellent.
Makro Planar 60/2.8 C - very handy macro, that can serve as high quality standard too.
Sonnar 85/2.8 - I regard it the best 85/2.8 lens.Just about perfect.
Sonnar 135/2.8 AE - some easily managable CA at f2.8 in contrasty lighting, besides a very good to excellent lens.
^ Thanks for the samples Peire. I'll certainly keep these in mind once I start shopping for additional lenses on my A7.
Right now I have the Fe35 incoming and it'll be my "everyday" lens, and assuming I don't get too addicted to AF, I'll be looking for others to add to the roster. I love my Minolta 35-70/3.5 image quality, but the handling of the lens is very annoying.
This one's nothing but pure luck. Was at about 70mm and f/3.5, maybe /5.6 and saw these two moths playing on the flowers. Had about 0.05 seconds to attempt a focus and shoot. This is darn-near a 100% crop haha

The MD 35-70/3.5 is a very good lens and I like it too.It can replace 35,50 and 85 lenses, but on the A7 it needs to be stopped to f5.6 in order to be sharp across the frame /get rid of corner smearing. In the real life shooting though,it doesn't matter.

35-70/3.5+A7
Yeah I typically only shoot f/3.5 if I'm doing flowers and I want the cool bokeh that the lens produces in 'macro' mode.
The very thin focal length ring combined with the rather long MFD in non-macro mode has me looking at other lenses to replace it's range. I figure I can replace the MD with a 50mm and 90mm, and with the FE35 I'll have almost everything I want for the near future.
