A shot of the beautiful ceiling inside Mission San Jose. The second shot is looking up at some sketchy steps that I climbed to reach the roof. It looks like the steps were carved out of a huge log. All shot with the FE 16-35GM

It's funny -- you and I approach similar subject matter from different directions, but on outcome and gear choices, we have a lot in common. I tend toward more AF, and am happy to shoot multiple frames to choose the sharpest and best focus from the group.
To me this is one of the strength of the large image threads.

Also differing -- I'm almost never using a tripod anymore, except for time exposure in twilight and such.
Tripod for me is mandatory as long as I use polarizer in most photos and refuse to use high ISO; on cloudy days shutter speeds tend to be 1/15s or so for me. Also I use quite often reflector to add light to my subject, sometimes silver side to reflect sunlight or white side to use wireless flash and reflect flashligh. I'm also way too ADHD to photograph handhold, the slowness what comes when setting up tripod etc. helps me to concentrate composition and think what and how I actually want to represent in the photo. What I don't enjoy is carrying Gitzo 3450XLS everywhere I hike...
Few examples of closed down Sigma 24-35mm Art rendering style (or lack of it...); I take this kind of photos from all locations, but I rarely post them here. They are more for my website to give overall look of the nature preserve area, not so much for artistical values. When I look these at computer I always wish I would have had Zeiss Distagon T* 2.8/28 C/Y with me, these don't even look my photos at all - technically they are excellent, I enjoy pixel peeping, but overall rendering style is not often what I would prefer:
Sigma 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art @ f/11.0, 1/2s, A7r @ ISO 100, B+W 82 KSM HTC-POL MRC nano
Sigma 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art @ f/11.0, 1/2s, A7r @ ISO 100, B+W 82 KSM HTC-POL MRC nano
Sigma 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art @ f/11.0, 0.3s, A7r @ ISO 100, B+W 82 KSM HTC-POL MRC nano
A shot from the roof of Mission San Jose. I'm not fond of heights so climbing a ladder with a pack full of gear was not much fun. I then had to climb up a ladder to reach the second level roof.
It was strange stepping around the roof because there are pockets that give way and you think for a second that you'll fall through the ceiling.
