Fireworks for the 4th of July - I did a similar shooting 4 years ago and the ship was lit and in a better shape. Plus, there was not a single drone back then. This time around there were easily 5 drones that I could spot this time around and they left light streaks in a lot frames that I had to remove. I will have to look for another location next year....
Sorry for the pesky drones, Joshua. Still, it's a rich image with world icon, so it goes way high in the plus column of my book. As always, beautiful evening light from you!

Continuing my walk through Aberdeen's alley of art and its surroundings.
1. Looks like the flag for the United States of Nirvana. (from young Kurt Cobain photo -- probably school photo from around second grade)
2. Kurt Cobain must be laughing in his grave to be portrayed as the city's cheerleader.
3. An update shot of "Beauty College" -- hard to see, but it has been changed and purged in small ways. (different alley)

Hi Jim, thank you! The drones are actually no big deal and the streaks can easily be removed. But the QM, compared to 4 years ago though, looks worse. It was decoratively lit and it was more photogenic back then. Now, adding those lights into the current image would be an unthinkable.
Great images from Aberdeen... I remember your "Beauty College" image from back then.

Yes, sad about the Queen. The City of Long Beach is in a tough spot with tens of millions of dollars in deferred maintenance and repairs over the years, and poor income from events/hotel of the ship. Death spiral for the ship? Don't know, but it's pretty urgent to fix.

"Beauty College" looks great! Where did you take it?
Thanks Fred! It is a parallel alley in Aberdeen, one block north of the art alley. This is the back entrance, which is far more interesting than the front, largely because its history, various improvements and repairs, and decay are more evident than the street entrance.
Here will be the last two images of the fireworks show for the celebration of the 4th of July in Long Beach. One thing I don't like about fireworks is the presence of smoke trail on longish exposure. In real life, the smoke was not that noticeable but on time exposure, especially when lit by the fireworks themselves, they can look a tad unsightly. The previous image was my second frame. The smoke trail were there but not that bad. But in subsequent frames, they got worse and the wind was blowing from left to right, bringing the smoke closer to the QM.
It got so ugly that I ended up cropping the entire right side, making this more a vertical one from a horizontal image. Thanks to the cropping power of the A7r II, it doesn't look bad at all. I zoomed in a little for the second image and cropped a little more for a tight composition of the exploding fireworks only.
I hope there will be smokeless fireworks in the making
Here's a slightly pimped-out shot from my new Sony 12-24/4 G lens. No lens profile available, so simple cropping and straightening along with exposure adjustments and color/contrast. Looks very promising! I was a bit worried about such a wide angle, whether I'd get much use out of it -- seems like a great match for my architecture shots.
