Figured I'd ask this here, given how familiar everyone is with photos taken with various lens combinations.
I'm seeing something strange on my Voigtlander 35/1.2 ii when shooting wide open. I know the argument can be made that neither of these two shots need to be taken near 1.2, but I wanted to test the lens at wider apertures.
Somehow, certain areas of the frame are blurred that I wouldn't expect to be. Perhaps this is just user error on my part, but look at the shot of the two silos, and notice how the top of the silos are noticeably softer than the base/middle of the silo.
Also, notice how in the photo of the tree, the old brown leaves are in focus, but the limbs of the tree are completely blurry. And the house is in focus too, but it's well behind the tree.
Might there be something wrong with the lens, or is it just inexperience?

it's difficult to tell from those types of shots if something is wrong with the lens, it's easier to spot lens problems in shots where everything is at infinity or everything is in the same plane (brick wall shots). it's also better not to shoot in bright sunlight where flare and other aberrations will be exagerated in isolated parts of the frame. most super fast lenses have a ton of aberrations wide open that tend to get worse away from the center of the frame so worse performance away from the center is not surprising. typically such lenses will also have curved field of best focus, e.g. the center of the frame might be in focus at 10ft while the corners might be focused at 45ft. this curvature of field is always symmetrical about the center of the frame if the lens is functioning properly. if one corner is focused at one distance and the opposite corner is focused at a different distance it means that either the lens optics are decentered or that the adapter is not symmetrical. hope that helps.
I was finally able to take some photos after being away and cooped up with work. With a break in the weather yesterday, I took some flower shots in between mowing the lawn and pulling weeds. :P
Captured wide open on the A7 and Zeiss 50mm Makro-Planar ZE.

Here are some images taken last evening in magic hour before sunset and as the sun was going down a bit before sunset at the Trexler Nature Preserve Environmental Center, Schnecksville, PA. Images taken with my tripod mounted A7r and my Minolta CLE MC 40mm f2 M-Rokkor lens set to f11 for DOF and fighting with somewhat windy conditions. Images processed in LR5.3.
Some photos from the past two weeks. Both taken with A7, first one with C/Y Planar 50/1.7 @ f/5.6:ish, second with aus Jena 135/3.5 @ 3.5. Not unsurprisingly I got a large green flare at the bottom of the sun's reflection in the water, but I got rid of it by tweaking the color curves a bit.
