Draw your sword of conclusion.

No point at al using that great lens on the sony. If I see how good these lenses are on the M8 and M9, I really don't see the point in using them on the A7/ A7r where they become average with only a good center..

It seems like there is a deliberate plan behind these all; supported by Sony as well as Zeiss too. I do not believe any company would invest such huge amounts of money and efforts to come up with two hi-tech bodies to perform great with the majority of the wider portion of available rangefinder lenses. I do not believe Sony engineers who created some finest sensors in the last couple of years have fallen short in supplying a proper IR filter on top of the sensor like the ones on the Leica M (or M9) or lacking technology to come up with offset microlenses aligned (or configured) optimally; I do not believe they wanted these at all. Why would they? An AF lens in average costs about one third or half of a body, constituting almost a camera price for an average user having two-three lenses, why would they kill the possibility of making the same revenue twice and amortise their investment in shorter time (also before Canon or Nikon come up with something similar, who knows..)

We saw the same movie with the introduction of X-trans sensor too; on which only their native lenses performed flawlessly despite of the smaller sensor size; make the sensor-covering layers 2.5mm thick to sell your own wides. The remarkable point with the optical designers at Fujifilm or Zeiss, they know how to come up with some splendid lenses by overcoming the "handicaps" they created with their own hands; Fujifilm wides work better than anything else on X-trans sensors, the new FE 55mm and 35mm Sonnars are stellar lenses; we already started seeing how they perform against the best lenses available from any brand on any body no matter what they cost.

I tend to believe more on a sophisticated plan "devised" by Sony-Zeiss collaboration to define a new standard for top-class short-register mounts. IMHO, we are going to see some more short FLs from this collaboration to be regarded as being the reference-class. If I would be investing some $100M's to develop some innovative bodies to sell around for $2K, then I would rather find a way to sell my own lenses as well.... specifically my own lenses..

The new trend seems to be custom designed lenses for custom designed sensors; specific formulas, specific software methods. Leica have been doing this since years, now the others will follow the example... Fujifilm first, then Sony.. perhaps in 2014 Nikon or Canon?

Uhoh7, could you please stop posting other peoples images like that? Use the share function on Flickr so that the photographers name and the name of the image turns up directly below it. There will also automatically be a correct link to each image.

the canon 50/.95 looks surprisingly sharp wide open:

20131115-DSC00234 by cityusam01, on Flickr

also, i'm kinda diggin the look of the konica hexanon 35/2 in the same photostream. doesn't seem to have much corner smearing stopped down either.

i have high hopes for the 35 lux pre-asph.

nah. I can survive with my rx1 till the summer. by then we should have nailed down which works better with rangefinder lenses and I can buy it off someone here who's anticipating the next great thing.

I'm in the same camp. I have such a great variety of RF glass now, I would not want to start over again… Depending on the performance of the A7, I may end up selling my D700 even thought it isn't worth much anymore.

Wow. There's all kinds of really interesting unusual lenses in there. What the heck is a Minolta Rokkor 28mm G 3.5 LTM?

I'm not pixel peeping these at 100% (yet), but just a quick look shows the A7 likes wider RF glass a lot better than the A7R does.

That is what I am checking also. It looks like he has some converted glass from Japanexposures/ Miyazaki. Leica Summarit 40mm F2.4 M colors are very nice, but expensive... He has also interestingly small SONNETAR 50mm f/1.1 MC. He has a review with mixed results of that lens, esp bokeh.

I haven't seen the Avenon 21mm f2.8 LTM before either. From what I found it is an another interesting lens, produced in small qtys by a Japanese who passed away...

That's a good call, but I think everyone here would love to see what you could do with an A7 and all those cool lenses you have - especially the Rokkor 58/1.2. I know you love the lens in the RX1 but I'm always left feeling it's just a bit too perfect and smooth.
