Most frustrating shoot of my life.... didn't help that it was for an in-law He just was not into it at all. This is probably the only picture of the session that I'm okay with... It's a shame too, because the 58 and 135 were s-i-n-g-i-n-g.
Edit - not sure why it's not showing exif?? 58 @ f/1.8
This is why I hate family/friend photo shoots. Either they think they are wasting your time or they are not into it because they are not forking out money. I much prefer shooting for clients who actually want photos enough they are willing to pay for them. Nice shot though! I know how frustrating those kind of shoots can be.
Amazing shot!! How'd you use a flash at 1/4000? HSS? Or is that a reflector?

Just a bit. Why?
From my experience, the DOF is much thinner at that distance. Also, bokeh is larger when framing the same way without cropping. I'm pretty familiar with the 58mm cuz I use it 90% of the time :-)
Elijah, have you ever used the 135 DC? I think you'd really enjoy how well it compliments the 58. I'm going to pop a few pics in the 135 thread in a few minutes.

I haven’t. I know it’s an awesome lens and I love the focal length (I’ve owned a 135L before) but I think 70-200VRII is far more versatile for my applications. That might change tho... Like I said, I’m patiently waiting on 135G...
Here’s an interesting comparison of the 58mm I just photographed.

I was deadset on waiting for a 135G as well, but I have zero patience. If it was going to happen, it would have been the day after I bought mine... Kind of how I sold the DF, bought a D4, then boom D750 released.
70-200 doesn't hold a candle to the 135. I just think it'd fit you very well, it's low contrast and subdued colors which seems to be what you like.

I'm sure the 135mm is great, but the 70-200mm is pretty damn fine @ 200mm F2.8. For photoshoots, I have yet to find a lens I enjoy shooting with more than the 70-200mm.
Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to say thanks to all for sharing their images from this lens, Ive really enjoyed following this thread and I always look forward to seeing the new images, so thank you to all of you who have been posting images.
Right from its release I knew it was a lens that I was interested in and having seen what it can produce I'm even more convinced.
Just out of curiosity has any camera body in particular shown itself to be a good partner for this lens or does it just rock it with whichever body you use?
I still use D700's and whilst I think its a great camera I can't help eyeing up some of the other recent releases and its that thought that had me wondering about a 58 pairing, would any of you multi body owners care to comment?

I shoot with the D800, but this lens does have a resolution limit when shooting wide open. I'd say the resolution wide open is conservatively about 12-16 megapixels, so shooting with a d800 like myself you throw away a lot of pixels when you use this lens wide open.
The D700 would work great with this lens imo, but if your looking to upgrade I think the D750 would be tops in my list for current cameras. I just held one at my local camera store and fell in love and I didn't even turn it on to test the autofocus/high iso because I knew I would have walked out of the store with it.
I'm actually considering buying a D750 and selling my D800.
