This thread has me wanting this lens, then I can get rid of my manual focus Voit 58 1.4 and Sigma 50mm. This is definitely one of Nikon's more artistic style lenses, I too find most of their stuff is clinical/sterile and needs help in post to really make them appealling. It's why I'm starting to look more into Zeiss primes. I never believe the "the lens has a look" fluff but after owning some that are regarded as such, I can pick them out easily when downloading my card and has me wanting more.
If you like the look of the voit, maybe you should keep it.
I use both the 58mm nikon and an old 55mm 1.2 nikon because they have different "looks."

Why did you need +1.7 EV for these shots?
I knew someone would ask
Most of these shots are shot in manual mode. When in Manual, exp comp doesn't affect anything unless you have a flash, then it will compensate for the flash.
I accidentally left the exp comp at +1.7 EV on my DF that time. Also, when I shoot in Aperture mode, I try to overexpose my shots at least +0.7 EV or +1.0 EV. It gives me better skin tones (arguably) when I edit in LR.
My 58mm f1.4G arrived on yesterday's UPS truck, and of course I took it to my Rotary meeting and then a local wine bar. All images capture at f/1.4 on the Nikon Df at ISO 3200, OOC JPEG
