My camera bag came unzipped a few months ago and my 58/1.4 suffered a 4 foot fall to concrete that shattered the internal lens tube. The back half and element group fell out when I took off the rear cap to inspect it.
I sent it to Nikon in NY. I had a basically newly repaired lens back in my hands in less than 2 weeks from door to door. Interestingly, once it made it into shop (presumably NY), the completion of repair and shipment was only about 36 hours apart and came from the CA repair location. Initial assessment since getting it back is that it performs pretty much identical to how it did before on my D700, and fortunately the repair still cost less than buying another used copy (but not by much given the amount of things that were replaced).
