I dont get to see the images

Sad as I think the combo G28/A7 would say a lot given Phillips A7r samples. OR was it the usual useless inshop snaps?

The impression I got was it won't mount because of the bubble back and clips?

Is that what the chinese site say? That would be odd as the wings are there to enable you place the lens on a table w/o hurting the back element and are of course short enough to allow rays of light pass towards the (FF-) sensor edges.

On the APS-C NEX it's a different matter, plastic framing surrounding the sensor can interfere. The G28 barely touches the NEX 5N while the G21 needs some technique to be mounted properly.

Slightly off topic, but large retrofocus wide angles balance better with small NEX cameras and adapters with triopd mount, than with large DSLR cameras. They also build less in height, helping staibility.

Ok, tried the A7 and A7r tonight at my local shop.

I can't show pictures as it wasn't aloud to use your own card. I did however use a card and look at the jpg's on a computer.

I only tried 5 lenses on the A7r. All at about 2 meters indoors and all wide open.

leica 18mm SE ASPH - Sharp center, fuzzy corners with a little colorshift.
leica 24mm SE ASPH - Sharp center, fuzzie corners. Less colorshift, at f/5.6 still a little fuzzy corners.
leica 28mm Summicron ASPH - Sharp center, fuzzie corners, could not see colorshift. At f/5.6 sharp across the frame.
leica 35mm Summicron ASPH - little fuzzie corners when wide open, sharp across the frame at f/2.8
leica 50mm summicron (v5) - very sharp across the frame from wide open.

With these results I wasn't convinced it being a replacement for the M9 or M240.
However with 35/2.8 and 55/1.8 it worked nicely.

Do note that I only took these out of the hand, with a cheap adapter and a lot of camerageeks at my back. So maybe with some proper testing the results will be better.

Further I found the shutter of the A7r to be really loud compared to the M9 and especially M240.
The build is nice.

Nice illustration, alundeb of how good the a7r will be on a tripod for all large lenses, with less overall mass. It's the logial place for tripod mounts of course which is why many long lenses have their own mount of course.

Thanks for running the tests. Hopefully some of the WA RF lenses will prove to be acceptable.

As to the shutter, I still do not think it to be that loud. Perhaps about the same as for an SLR. Again, don't forget these are low mass cameras which offer little to dampen the sound.

Thanks for running the test! A quick question:

What is the 24mm SE asph? There is an Elmarit ASPH and an Elmar ASPH, not sure what the SE is? I have an elmar I am hopeful for, so just looking for some more detail

Thanks Robert!
A lot of the people that already tried it are mentioning the loud shutter. I don't like loud shutters.

The shutter is not loud compared to any SLR. It sounds a bit funky, that's all.

SE would normally designate the super elmar.

Martin is right that the shutter sound is a bit "different". It seemed similar noise level to my D700 but quite a bit louder than my M240. It wouldn't bother me at all though....

Not me. For a lens this good and this fast it would be a shame if you had to stop down to f/5.6 to get good corners. I would want it to be sharp across the frame by f/2.8 and across 2/3rd of the frame wide open. Maybe it will be that good as Bijiltje didn't get much of an opportunity to test it.

AFAIK, Super Elmar is the same as Elmar in LeicaSpeak, only for lenses at least 21mm wide. Thus the 24mm is a Elmar, and the 21 a Super Elmar. The difference in designation refers to width only, not quality.

Agree 100%. If you are going to shoot a $3k 28mm manual focus prime, it better damn well be good. And I could say the same thing about the 24mm Elmar I have (assuming that indeed the SE referenced above is the 3.8)

I hate to break it to you but the current new price for a Leica 28mm f2 Summicron ASPH is $4,295.00 (B&H). This is a bit disappointing but I will wait for more tests before a decision.
