p.27 #1 · A7/A7r - performance with WA RF lenses

Ha! Good point. We haven't really talked about how good the A7R will likely be as a B&W camera with these M lenses, if there isn't a smearing issue.

Well, if the mono of my SLR/C (ancient I know) is any indication of mono without an AA filter (truly absent like MF, not unfiltered like D800E) ... I'd say "Suh-Weeet".

The offset sensor can only help improve the amount of energy transmitted to the sensor as a byproduct of less refraction and better wavelength alignment ... even if insufficient to fully offset UWA rangefinder glass steep angles (as I believe) to fully prevent color shifting. I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't improve B&W (too steep/smearing @ UWA notwithstanding). While the color shifts have been opposing hues, the tonal values of them (in my experience on FF) have been equitable.

In that regard, I'd say that the rangefinder glass with its closer proximity to the sensor will be a significant increase in contrast (at least centrally) ... just like with film. My only thing @ rangefinder glass is going to be the UWA side of things with those steep angles that are too much for the microlens to properly refract and retain wavelength alignment ... and of course the natural vignetting of rangefinder lenses in general.

Why, oh why is it that when "people" get their hands on preproduction cameras, they are noobs? I mean WTF, how about Sony giving them to photographers?

Edit: Yes, this was obviously in a camera store. But anyway. There are cameras out there, but only the usual shitty closeup-cat shots and so on.

Hmmm, the image circle of the Touit vignettes on FF ... who'da thunk it.

Makes the vignetting on the Oly 18 look pretty attractive.

Well it does tell the story. All I wanted to know how these lenses work on FF.

BTW I ordered my A7r today

Yeah, everyone knows cats are not an appropriate subject for serious tool evaluation (ok kosmoskatten excepted). We won't truly know the capabilities of the A7 cameras until flickr is full of squirrel shots.

Gotta have squirrels.

Phew, thanks Michael, Kosmos the Cat sure comes in handy at times.
Also, I seldom post images on the web anyway, I'd rather print.

On a more serious note, I am doubting the A7/r for RF wides, which is a pity as the camera as such seems like heading in the right direction. But, with a few select catered Zeiss or Sony in house lenses and with that 55mm it still is a nice offering.

Meanwhile, speculation will continue and what I think is even more atrocious than Cat shots are APS C lenses shot on full frame for "test shots".

Imported the image into lightroom and then lightened the corners - looks like there is no smearing but probably best to try for yourselves as I could be wrong or wishful thinking

It's not that I don't want 36MP, but I just don't need them. 24 is enough already, but if this is true I'm certainly not getting an A7.

I want every single pixel of it....my two years experience of D800 but...I am buying A7 for its faster AF

I had a 7r preorder but I canceled it this mornining. At this point not enough native glass, which I would use and too much uncertainty about how the 7r will perform with the glass I want to use. I think give it another year or less and many of these problems will be sorted out as well as other companies will release similar cameras. Maybe even Canon will get off their butts and release a high MP camera(which is what I am really waiting for). If they don't then in a year or so it maybe time to jump ship. But as of right now, just too many unknowns to justify an "experiment", at least for me.

That looks familiar...

Is that the A7 on the left and A7r on the right?

No.

Full-frame(non-crop) mode vs. crop(APS-C) mode.

Can we blame the adapter for bad corner?

Nanh,
At close focus the rear lens element of the G28 moves quite a bit away from the sensor. It would be interesting to see how it performs at infintiy with F8 or F11. Aka whether it is usable for landscape photography.
