A couple of tests today with the Sony a7r, Metabones III and Canon 17mm TS-E lens shot at f/11
Original image and the four corner 100% crops
sharpness looks fairly consistent on the four corners. A tad bit softer than the center but not objectionable. Pretty consistent with the image from the 5DIII.

Orange peel at 200% from RAW file. Original on left with smart sharpened 100% and 25% noise reduction on right.
A little bit of tweeking here and there to bring the orange peel texture down a little bit. Don't think it would be there on an uncompressed RAW file.

Klaus - where was your point of focus in this shot? Too much depth in the scene to tell enough about the top crops, but the bottom ones look pretty good. Also, is this an unshifted image?
p.95 #6 · Sony A7 and A7r Full Frame with Canon Lenses
Has Sony released any clarification regarding their raw compression? It seems like everyone is assuming that this is the cause of certain artifacts, but an official response from Sony would be great. It would seem that a simple firmware upgrade would be able to allow uncompressed raws.

Peter, my focus was at 10 feet. the front of the third step. everything from ~4 feet - infinity should have been in focus. I really wanted to see if there was any sharpness difference in each corner at that setting with the issues of some of the Metabones being a little out of alignment. This copy seems to be pretty good
from the tests I did today. There was no shift on the lens. Going to try those out tomorrow.

I'd be curious to see how much of a difference you see if you focus on the actual corners. I have that lens too and have found that even at f/11, you can really see where the point of critical focus lies. I'm also guessing that there is some curvature of field that is simultaneously enhancing the bottom corners and doing the opposite to the top.

Any chance you can share the raw? You can upload it to https://www.transferbigfiles.com/ (no registration required) and then post the resulting link here. Thanks.

Peter,
There is some curvature. when I shoot again with the tilt will change the corners. I am going to try the 24-70 II also. I really wanted to see how well the Metabones would do without any T-S. Wish I had more time to do them today.

I will give it a shot in the morning. Going to hit the bed now

Unfortunately, any more than probably a degree of tilt, and maybe not even that much, and the extreme corners on both the 17 and 24 completely fall apart. But I'm still looking forward to seeing your results.

Has anyone tested a 17 or 24mm TSE on an A7 rather than A7r (to examine corner resolution with full shifts as Fred did)? It would be interesting to see if there's a difference as the sensors are not the same wrt microlenses and AA
Wow, the flare is quite noticeable and really alters the look of the images. Does this flare happen with all lenses? or just some of the Canon adapted lenses. Curious if it is also an issue with factory Sony FE glass. This is issue is much more worrisome to me than the infamous (by now) "orange peel".
Is the flare a problem with the (often neglected) A7 (non-R)?

I've been experiencing pretty awful sensor flares with Metabones3-adapted canon lenses on A7R. Is the issue really with the sensor, or is adapter playing some role in the flare? I don't have any native FE glass or another adapter to test.
This is from last night testing 24-70 MK2 ...
Hi secondclaw,
I would recommend trying out what I did with the metabones: velour to reduce reflections inside the adapter (see page 94 of this thread). Others have proposed other materials which sound great too.
Maybe with this night photograpy and the lenses you use you have found circumstances where even non-tilit-shift-lenses cause reflections inside the metabones. Could be that zoom lenses - when zoomed to the long end - produce an image circle large enough to hit some critical surfaces inside (just a suspicion, I don't know exactly how they work optically).

Any one ever wet cleaned his A7R sensor ? Got a few specs, shooting right now around f/11 f/13 in studio (raining storm here :/). I have sensor swab for FF, eclipse etc. Just wanted to hear from others before killing my sensor lol !

I'm still trying to figure out if this "orange peel" thing actually something that shows up in a photo you print? I honestly don't know yet whether this is or isn't an issue, it's just that the only examples I've seen so far are either when a photo has been oversharpened or magnified 200% or more. If someone wants to let me know what circumstances this is supposed to occur in I'd be interested in trying to duplicate it because I haven't seen it yet in my own photos.

I have seen the so-called "orange peel". However, if I overshapen 5D III raw files, I see it too.
