Sold my 1DX a couple weeks ago at FM. I was going to get a 5DMK3 (since I mostly shoot landscapes) but got the Sony A7 with the kit lens this weekend. I am really impressed. So far I am missing the easy way of selecting focus points on my Canons but the continious autofocus may make up for that. I wish Canon came up with a similar sized FF very soon since would be very nice to use Canon glass in these dimensions... Good job Sony. But one thing if I must be a bit negative. 5.2 hours to charge the effin battery via USB and tcheaping out on a $15 charger?? Really Sony, are you this cheap??...Show more →
Over on dpreview there a review of the A7r with initial impressions from one of the dpreview staff. In the review they mention a work around for getting to the focus points quicker ... might be worth reading.

Not everybody needs the charger. I already have 2 of them for my NEX cameras. Including a charger would have made the kit more expensive.
As you know not everyone owns an NEX. It would have been gracious of Sony to include one - they aren't expensive pieces of kit at the cost of production.

Is that a joke? Sony's cost to physically produce a charger are incredibly negligible compared to the price of manufacturing these cameras. They don't even have to do a single bit of R&D at this point, since it is unchanged from any of the NEX series batteries - which, in an entirely different debate - are apparently underwhelming in many aspects. The A7(r) is supposed to be a conquest camera for Sony so it blows my mind why they would assume that the hordes of Canikon users that may consider picking up this system would already have a charger. Price points tend to be fairly hard so I imagine this is due to some db on the board wanting more money rather than doing the right thing for the consumer... which is something Sony has a long track record of not giving a flying fruit loop about. It isn't a show stopper for me or anything but it does piss me off more than a little.

I took some family shots yestrday, I had the A7r+VM35/1.2 and 1Dx+24-70II at the same time, I took the same shot with the same setting, both are great 1Dx win the speed, A7r win the size, both have the same PQ in my mind.

To be a bit fair Probably more than 99% don't own a charger. So it would be very strange to not care about all those people.

Ha, ha, that crossed my mind. And plastic lens hoods are even cheaper than battery chargers!
Sorta the same idea except Canon includes a hood on the more expensive lenses. Sony is offering a high end body with missing accessories. A charger is more essential to most people than a plastic hood.

Yeh...but it is still very cheap on Canon's part not to include a 50 cent hood...which by the way they charge upwards of $25 for. Talk about gouging...

Ummm, this is the Canon forum/thread for people that presumably have Canon cameras and lenses which they might wish to use on the new Sony A7 series. Maybe most of us won't have Sony chargers - will we?
Given the preponderance of Nikon and Canon cameras, as many as 98 percent of the potential new users of the A7 series likely won't have Sony cameras - and if the only buyers are existing Sony owners with Sony chargers, their market is greatly reduced.

That is true. My 17-55 cost as much as my 24-105. No hood on the 17/55. I was pissed. Fortunately the 24-105 hoods works.
