Yesssss, I got my hands on an a7 at the local photo fair today! One strange thing is that I can't see any signs of the weather sealing. No gaskets, nothing. And you can't access the menues during charging. Oh well.
Congratulations, my A7R will be delivered on tuesday, can't wait to try it out. Why did you choose A7?

Martin,
When I am out shooting when it is cold I will use a pair of gloves with a fairly thin liner glove inside. When I need to adjust some things that are small I will will remove the heavier glove and rely on the dexterity of using the liner glove. It may be worth a try for you.
Great idea! It's only just above 0°C here now, so it's not yet a problem to just take the gloves off occasionally.

Several reasons:
* I don't need or want 36 mpix.
* PDAF if I get AF lenses.
* Cheaper.
* Less trouble with RF lenses towards the corners.

Also remember, if the system does work, it is still easy to get bad pics, either with a bad adapter, bad lens or bad technique. But if the system doesn't work, getting good pics out of it is very, very difficult...

I just changed my pre-order from A7R to A7.
I'll mostly be using RF glass with it, and while smearing may not be much better on the A7, I'll have less color cast to deal with.
I'm totally fine with 24Mp. I would rather not have the AA filter, but to me that means not at all, of course. None of this two-filters-that-cancel-each-other-except-still-cause-refraction stuff

Thanks for the feedback Martin. Ergonomics (I have realized) is very important to me….
I just returned from a little walk, and mostly the camera works fine as expected. But, the buttons are too bloody small. I think I'll have to glue some sort of protruding plugs on some of them, because now they are flush with the body and impossible to feel at all with gloves.

There is something to be said for having small hands and wearing liner gloves.

Have you also considered the Leica R 50mm f2 Summicron V2?
Rich
Thanks -- I'm drawn to M over R for smaller size/weight -- and I did prefer M Lux to Cron for the extra stop and smoother oof -- (I've also mostly been looking to get a new, rather than used, lens) -- well, at least this is how I've been looking at it so far.
Along the lines of the Sonnar, the Nokton f/1.5 seems like "sensible" choice -- I just haven't quite decided whether I'm going to be sensible this time.

Will any of the big box stores in the US carry the A7/A7r? I'm in Atlanta, but not sure of a local source. Since Amazon charges GA sales tax anyway, would love to buy local.

Actually not including the adapter, the Leica R 50mm f2 Summicron V2 is a little lighter than the Leica M f1.4 Summilux ASPH.

Trying to hit the chimping button c2 after taking a shot in order to check focus is my biggest complaint with the camera so far. And I've got small hands and don't use gloves.
It's small and recessed behind the rear lcd ledge making it especially hard to hit. After a few hours of shooting I can feel a cramp develop in my hand.
Why didn't they place this action on the center button like the 5n / 6 or make it reassignable?

Buying from a big box store isn't buying any more local than ordering from Amazon. Buying local would mean finding an independent local camera store.

Showcase is likely the only local Atlanta store that will have it. No clue which Best Buy's will have it in stock. Some shippers don't charge sales tax--B&H, Adorama, et al.

Just picked up my A7R (and 35/2.8 FE lens). The battery is now charging. I have a number of NP-FW50 batteries (from the NEX-5N) and would normally have put an already charged one in the A7R plus an SD card and started shooting. But Cindy Flood pointed out in a post at GetDPI:
As an aside, I had a NEX/A7 battery charged and waiting. I didn't read the manual or I would have known that you need to put the A7/A7r on the power cord and charge it up the first time. I was plagued the whole time that I was out by the Set Date/Time message. I would set the date and time and as soon as it went to sleep, or I turned it off, the message appeared again. The internal battery needs to be charged. It did not accept the date/time until the new battery was charged to 75% on the power cord....Show more →
UPDATE: The camera remembered the date/time when the battery was charged to 50%.

Is this an Australian only thing? I wonder why? Not why a free adapter but why only Australia? genji wrote:

I don't understand Sony and Australia.
Their cameras seem to cost the same here as the USA, I bought the RX! and RX100 at prices that were comparable. I just put in an order here for the A7R at a major department store with a 20% discount, from 2499 to 2004 dollars.That price includes the adapter, that would normally cost around 500 dollars locally.
They have bizzare pricing for their laptops. Some are the same as the USA but others have a 60% price markup. Weird company
