I'm wondering how good the 24-70 native is. Not wildly expensive. Seems to be sold out till feb. Anyway, there's gonna be alot of shake out in the next year. I have body ordered (in first 5 min at B&H), but no glass right now. Long run I want killler landscape glass UWA to 400--but size and weight are a serious factor.
What we know, obviously, is that the A7r is capable of unprecedented digital sharpness. You know there will be alot of options---the camera is a hit. We will figure out how to realize the potential.
Just can't wait to get this thing "in my hands" ...Show more →
I also ordered body (a7R) in the first five minutes along with the 24-70 and then separately the 55/1.8 all from Adorama. It's going to be interesting to see how these things trickle out. I've called Adorama several times and their story has stayed the same. They expect the camera AND the 24-70 to be available the week of November 4th. I keep calling because that seems sooner than anything I've seen published to date but they claim this is coming from the manufacturer. They also remind me that this is subject to change. I also want to make sure they don't hold on shipping the camera to wait for the lens . . . I'm almost thinking of cancelling the lens in order to ensure I get the camera.

While the Samyang 14/2.8 is a good lens -considering the cost- size wise isn't going to be precisely a pancake. 86mm. long for Canon EF mount translates as 112mm. long in E-mount. If you don't mind that and a huge 7% distortion, then it's a reasonable choice but not optimal IMHO.

It's the logical choice since there's already an ff, af, 16-35 by zeiss for Sony. nandadevieast wrote:
Where did you read about this rumored wide zoom 16-35? Can you point me to the source?
I also read a mention of 85 1.8??

How about wired remote switch?
Sony offers the RM-VPR1 (without an intervalometer) that has a multi interface port (micro usb port) but I'm not sure if it's compatible with the new a7 series. It seems to work with the Nex-7 for the photo functions only.
Any ideas?

That's the one that Sony US lists as compatible, Fred.
Hmm - I see ghosts on the ceiling lights with the A7, but not the A7R. I get those sorts of ghosts a lot with my Nex-7, one can only hope that something about the sensor toppings with the A7R stops that from happening!
When we first played with the units, we found the focusing to be a tad slow. However, we’re actually quite impressed with the focusing speed now. At the show, the camera was able to lock onto targets quickly and without any fuss. While the company pimps the capabilities of the A7 more in terms of autofocusing, the A7r seems like no slouch.
Looks like the Firmware Fairies have been at work. Yay.

I played with a A7R yesterday and AF is very nice with the 55mm f1.8 I tried. Here are some images (I was at PhotoExpo). They had some amazing 6ft prints from the A7R!

I am wondering how my Canon 50mm 0.95 will work with the A7r. The rear element is surprising small for this lens but it worked perfectly fine with the Nex7 and the XE1. I am going to use the same C mount to e mount adapter, hope it works.

I'm supremely bummed the A7r has the slower flash sync and lacks the electronic first curtain. I have to wonder if this is from Sony saving pennies in the A7r to make it as low as possible, or if it's a conscious decision because the A7r is the "landscape" / whatever camera and doesn't need a faster sync or EFC? I guess it could also be a technical limitation, in that the 36MP sensor can't read out fast enough for a faster sync or good EFC..I dunno.
I think I may just wait this round out and see what Sony does with the system - their dedication to their camera lines is inconsistent at best, so I'm hoping FE is here to stay for good and gets a lot of support from them and others.

Same here. I have the RX1 and there is no way I'm going back to a clunky and slow traditional curtain. And, I think I've better wait for the new Zeiss lenses to surface. It would be fun to try the A7/A7R with the Voigtländer 35/1.2 but not USD 4.650 fun (which is the price for the kit here in Sweden). Lol. I can wait, no doubt.

Yeah I edited my prior post because my hunch is the underlying electronics cannot support some of the bandwidth requirements.
That said, as I become reacquainted with my GX1, another reason surfaces to wait (for me at least)...touch LCD. I really, really like changing focus points with the rear screen.
Sony is pretty prolific with the model lines, so maybe an A7t will come out .

As far the electronic first curtain, it probably has something to do with the 36mp sensor. Who knows?
Yes, I've read some days ago ( can't remember where) that the way the data are read from the sensor, prevents using a electr. first curtain on that 36Mp sensor.
Anyway, the slow 1/160" flash syncr. has nothing to do with that ( The Nikon D800 has 1/250" ). It's possibly a decision from Sony to keep at bay the shutter noise, because slower shutters are less noisy. The A7 has 1/250" syn,. speed, but the EFCS helps a lot to keep down the noise, ( only one 'slap', instead of three with a mechanical shutter ).
