I was going to "save money" (ha ha) by buying just an A7R body, and using it as an alt lens camera only. $1000 for a 55mm f1.8? Pshaw! I've got a shelf full of amazing 50mm-58mm lenses.

I was waffling between the 7 and 7r till I looked at the high rise apartment and on the 5th floor could see the green bag draped over a plastic milk carton with the words "task"in the kitchen. Oh and notice in front of the office building the Euro license plate with the little "H" (Hungry?). I'm pretty sure this camera and this lens will work until the Zeiss FE21 shows up.

There's a difference between learning something new and shoehorning one's shooting habits to non-optimal gear. While some will surely make a 55 sing, it is simply not for me. In that range I much prefer 35-40mm. Sony's 35 looks nice too, but I was hoping it would have been f/2

i also much prefer 35-40mm to 50mm, but i actually like 55-60mm lenses a lot better than 50mm too.

yep, douglas, almost certainly IMO. They would not have wanted to abandon the EFCS, nor generate more shutter noise than necessary. These are two very nice features of the a99.
I see them as two different cameras inhabiting the same body, sounds creepy I know.

Also note - moire seems not to be an issue despite commonly repeated fears, and there are tons of targets within the building where you would expect to see moire show up, with other cameras. This makes me wonder how the A7 would fare with the same subject and lens.

Those images blown-up are amazing to me, how much detail that is in them. I was not going to get any E-mount lenses with my A7r just adapter and my Canon lenses, but now I don’t know.

I guess I'm the odd man out on these images. They look softer than what I have seen from the A7r + 55 thus far. Perhaps this is because some of these are at greater distances but it almost looks as though a little softening has been applied to fine detail (which might explain the lack of expected moire). I'm wondering if Sony is using a software moire solution of some sort.

Maybe. I have also been very surprised (and impressed) in not seeing moire in any A7r samples yet, and there have been plenty with clothing, fabric, hair and now buildings/ shutters where it would normally show up.

Btw, I took that building shot with all the windows/shutters and, after a pretty extreme curves adj., one can see that there is actually moire - but for all practical purposes in normal shots, Sony seems to be doing something to really minimize it.

huh, you realize the moire in that shot is probably due to the window screen right? the blinds are obviously a low enough spatial frequency not to provoke any moire.

The blinds example is the only windows I noticed it..and I would imagine other windows have screens as well. Nevertheless, just pointing out the moire. Feel free to debate the source! It's most likely the interaction of the blinds with the screen.

yeah, i was just impressed it would pickup moire from the screen.

A Ricoh GXR/M (no AA filter, 12.3MP) with Zeiss ZM25 would produce moire in fencing 5 blocks away. I don't see that with high resolution lenses on the D800 and expect for me moire not to be a serious everyday issue.
On another topic, here are some interior and night shots, A7r, A7, in the series:

Michael, interestingly, in that link you posted for the CV wide angle's in the other thread used with the a7r, a subtle moire pattern shows up in the blue shirt taken with the CV 21. This shot:
