Ah, right, forgot about lens speed. Perhaps Sony lens announcements in the interim, if any, will help shed some light on what is possible in terms of lens speeds.
At a minimum I'm expecting somewhat different designs and how that translates to rendering and how they compare to the known quantities out there today will be a subject of endless albeit fun discussion here.
I'd like to see an 85/2 or 85/2 Makro but wouldn't turn my nose at a 100MP either. I like your guess about a normal Makro - that makes sense. A 50 or maybe a 55 or 60 Makro? Positioned differently than the FE55/1.8 Sonnar then.
And a 21/2.8 -or- 25/2.8 first please Zeiss, thanks.

Can an Australian member with an Australia-sourced A7 or A7r confirm the available video frame rates? I have had extensive dialogue with Sony Australia and they cannot tell me... one rep claimed that the Aussie model has both the 60/50, 30/25, and 24 fps, and that these pairs are selectable via the PAL/NTSC selection option in the menu:
(Setup menu)
He claims that selecting one or the other then allows selection of either the 50/25 ("PAL) or 60/30/24 ("NTSC") frame rates. Can someone check and confirm—if all frame rates are available, I will source an Australian model. if only 50/25 are available, I will need to source a US model, because my other three cameras have the 60/30/24 frame rates. TIA, kl...Show more →
I am sadly not an Aussie, but I have a European PAL model, and with the NTSC/PAL Selector set to NTSC, the framerate options in the Movie Record Settings allow 60/24 at various sizes, but not 30? I do get a strange warning when starting up the camera though:
Running on NTSC.
then:
Recording is unavailable in this movie mode because format is set to NTSC. Format? [Enter/Cancel]
I have not yet tried formatting the SD card, since there are photos on there I want to keep, and for some crazy reason I cannot find another SD card at the moment.

Dear Carsten, thanks.
Beginners question: Does the VR work with this Novoflex Adapter?
No, sadly nothing electronic works, since there are no contacts. Such an adapter exists only for Canon so far, and of course for Sony A-mount. There is a ring which you can turn to change the aperture on G lenses, but no aperture markings, and it moves smoothly without indents. For lenses with an aperture ring, you can set the ring to the small circle (closed down), and the aperture ring itself will change the aperture.

Regarding the Zeiss FE lenses. . . my main hope is a 28/2, though I could be persuaded by a 28/2.8. Sharpness across the frame, and very little field curvature at f/5.6 and higher, both near and far. I'd be using this lens to take photos of flat things (urban photography), and landscapes.
Anything 50mm or longer that was APO would be sweet. Provided, of course, that it was not huge.
If they came out with a 21/4 that performed better than the Leica 21/3.4 on the A7, then I'd be all over that.
Seems to me they'd be money if they
- enlarged the Touit 12/2.8 enough to make it a decent 12mm FF lens (it nearly covers FF, though I don't know how far they'd have to go to get good edges)
- updated the ZM18/4 a bit
- Made an FE mount of the ZM50, perhaps somehow integrating a bit better flare control
- Put an FE+helicoid on the G90 Sonnar
- Made a modern version of the Leica 135/4 Elmar. Though, I believe it has radioactive glass, so I don't know what they'd have to do to work without that.
Something tells me anything in the 20-30mm range they do won't resemble any ZM or previous Leica M glass.

Just got my A7. The "Format" option (to format the SD card) is greyed out. When i click it I get this message: "This function is currently disabled". Clues?

That doesn't sound good 8fold. Do you think you have an invalid SD card, so it's not recognizing your card? Check SD card type that it is supported. I ran into that issue trying to get a 64 gb card to work in a Leica, turns out, it was unsupported.
DaveWolfs, maybe he loves everything hoping you will use his click to buys so he makes $... I'm just saying... Nothing against the guy, but he is a capitalist.

Carsten, congrats on your new "flawed" A7!
I am still good with my RX1 and D800E combo.
BTW, my RRS L bracket for my RX1 has cut outs in bottom for battery as was mentioned earlier but also on the side to access ports on the side. I'm sure RRS will put a cutout in for A7 on side.
I agree it would have been nicer if they had put in a larger mount which worked better for RF lenses but can see people still having fun with legacy glass that works on it.
Still saving up for the Otus whi ch I will get to play with soon!

I copied my images, formatted the card, and the message went away. Then I made a 24p FF movie, and it seems to work fine.
Is there something you want me to test, Kit? I am not a video expert. That is a huge understatement. But I can read and follow careful instructions.

Try an A7 or A7R when you get a chance. The ability to focus the ZF.2 35/1.4 wide open without even zooming the EVF in really surprised me.

There's an SD card in the camera. It is not locked (I just took some shots with it). I can format it (FAT) via my computer, but I'm not able to do it in the menus. The card is not corrupted in any way.
Just weird.

Btw, does anyone know how to turn off the horizon thing in the EVF? Drives me nuts, I want that area clear for focusing.
Press the DISP button whilst looking through the EVF to cycle through the views. Setup what it cycles through (independently for EVF and screen) on Menu->Gear wheel->2->DISP Button.

The person who earns my clicks is Lloyd Chambers. Objective reviews and a really nice fellow.

I don't think you have to worry about the front. From what I've seen, the mount is attached to a ”box” that also holds the sensor, which is cast magnesium alloy. The front is just cosmetics.

I might be hallucinating but believe somewhere I ran across someone talking about this and it had to do with low battery pack charge.
