S-006 + 120 Summarit-APO-Macro @ 2.5:
(A few shots from "Santa Monica Pier" - EDIT - It was Manhattan Beach Pier, from a while back. One is to show you how sometimes the lens can flare, keep in mind I never use hoods, so could be my fault. I also use B+W UV filters, thinking maybe Zeiss filters might be better, comments?)
I always leave the hoods on. It is a very simple way to keep contrast as good as possible and the extra size/weight does not bother me. I figure if I pay a considerable sum for good optics, I might as well help my lenses with a lens hood. Never had flare-issues on the 120mm.
Yes, I visit Portland often, almost once a year. I love that city.

Adam, awesome portrait. flare didn't bother me in this case(portrait), though I always have hood on S to protect lens. I can't judge bokeh performance in this case though. I am thinking get BW uv filter myself to get ride of the hood of 70, it will trim down lots of space.
Thanks peterv - And you're right, I should use a hood
zhangyue - The only reason I use filters is because if something does happen to the lens, it'll take Leica 2 months to fix it. And yeah the 70 is a lot smaller without the hood.
As far as bokeh is concern. What do you want to see? I'll try to look for some more shots and post them.

Anything with background Don't worry, I don't want bokeh overtake this thread, it should never be, just post images you like to share and I will look for Bokeh as side bonus I haven't turn down 100cron yet, it is a lot smaller, one stop faster...Just need more samples

I'm worried about the 100cron.. I tried it at different Leica stores in different countries (as in 3 different lenses), and the focus hit rate was low, very low (as in nothing was really properly in focus for me).. And yeah I get that the DOF is shallow, but my technique is fine for the Noctilux, so i'm sure it's not me.
I actually like the 120, it has grown on me. I'd almost sacrifice the macro capabilities for it to be a slightly faster focusing lens. Though I could get away with just the 70S to be honest. I'll process some more images tomorrow.

I think Zeiss and B+W filters are actually the same, arent they? (read somewhere that they just add name on it)
B+W filters are now owned by Schneider. Both B+W and Zeiss filters are made with Schott Glass. But, I am not sure if B+W makes the filters for Zeiss and applies the Zeiss T* coatings.

Rich
Wonder if the T* coating is more effective, and less detrimental to the rendering of a lens?

Hi Adam,
Have you noticed the coatings used on the B+W filters to cause any detriment to the rendering of your lenses? I tend to use (at least lately) some of the better B+W filter the Nano coatings that aid in making the filters easier to clean. I haven't really compared the lenses with and without the filters, but I am pleased with the performance of the UV filters. Most of my filters other than UV are some specialized Singh-Ray filters including special Circular Polarizers, ND filters, and Grad filters (normal direction and reversed direction) as well as some Lee filters. On several lenses I also have some of the best Heliopan filters on some of my best Apo Leica R lenses.

I wouldn't know, since I don't shoot with and without the filter in every situation. I also use the Nano B+W filters, so I'd assume there's no ill effects or someone would have made note of it.
My meaning of the word detrimental was that since the T* coating "might" reduce flare more then other coatings, would it bother any other aspects of the lens rendering.
I've not used a T* filter, so I'm not even sure if it reduces flare over other filters, or bare lenses.
Does Heliopan make good filters? Never bothered with anything other then B+W MRC clear filters (and now Nano MRC).

Yes, Heliopan makes excellent filters. Like B+W and Zeiss, they also use Schott glass. B+W and Heliopan I believe are the 2 largest German makers of photographic filters.
