Zeiss claims their new Otus 55mm F1.4 APO-Distagon is the perfect standard lens. This new low-light companion might be a bit bulky or heavy for some, but it is nearly perfect wide-open, produces vivid colors, has razor sharpness, and great flare control. If you're looking for top of the line image quality in a normal focal length lens, your search is over.
Now available for preorder for Canon EF mount (ZE) and Nikon E mount (ZF.2) at $3,999 each. Expect first deliveries starting on November 11th.
I'd like to know what would be the Best of Medium Format lens that Otus aims for?
The black cat head at ACTUAL PIXELS pic actually isn't as good as Digiloyd said but it seems more like D800E sensor cause.
1000g is something to carry around... we are coming closer to cine lenses for size, weight and price. When will diglloyd make comparisons between the still camera lenses and the Zeiss Master primes? I would love to see a comparison between this lens and the MP 50/1.3T and then also the 100/1.3T compared to a future 100mm Otus.
Seriously, it looks great, as expected. Is there anyone with access who can tell us cheapskates what diglloyd found out about axial CA. How APO is it?
I am still on the fence about this lens. I love the 50 Planar, in spite of its flaws, because of its lovely rendering, yet in spite of its strengths, the 50 Makro-Planar pretty much leaves me cold, except as a macro and portrait lens. This lens appears to have boke more reminiscent of the 50MP, which would kill it for me.

I am 99% sure that it is to give meaningful search results on the web. Try to search for Canon L, and then try to search for Touit.
Of course -- it's in line with Touit, but as far as a naming a product line for Zeiss goes it feels less meaningful to me, and it looks kind of weird to see it on a lens. It's something I'm used to see on things binoculars (which is unsurprising because they are very much used for bird watching) but not photographic lenses.
