They're bigger than I thought. As big as some shrimp.
Since taking off from the water is such a chore for puffins, it helps to be able to carry more that one little goodie at a time. I'm guessing there are little hooks on the insides of the beaks that hold on tightly to those slippery little devils.

That's right Charlie. The puffins have barbed hooks on the roof of their upper mandible, and they use their tongue to apply pressure to keep the fish on the hooks while they open up their beaks for another fish/krill. Thanks for stopping by.
