He was stating a fact?? Big whoop. It was done in such a pious manner that its questionable other than to suggest he can validate that he knows how to do PP and can identify when its taken place in work. Again, big whoop, like who doesn't do PP as refinement?

It was upstaging. It was a knock to all the good efforts of the photog and it was insistent.

AND the kicker is he does this as his primary work for other pro photogs as his profession.

So which way do you want to go here? That PP is OK? Or that PP is not

OK so the guy has an eye for PP? He should if its his living, right?

Even rookie photos know somehting has occured even if they can't pinpoint it like Pro Processor can.

To me the derailment is about PP, not about the photog and the shots.

I miss the posts from that fella who did awesome portraits. He also hired out post work for more edgy stuff. Can't recall his name for the life of me. If anyone gave his work negative crit, he always came back with, "no problem." and then he truly left it alone. It was as if to say, "opinions vary. I get it."
He didn't require constant stroking and affirmation. Anyone remember his name and know why he left here? Vague description, I know...

So you are saying that if you think the advice being given is wrong you shouldn't defend your work?

Speaking of that lets discuss image #1. Ya know, photographers intent and visual content. The things that should really matter.

Defending your work here is apparently akin to 'not being able to handle criticism' and then being berated by a select few people who only seem to pop up in threads that go awry.

Wow these people would go nuts in a graduate defense of a portfolio. If you can't defend your work then you get eaten alive. Kinda the way it is in some professional environments.

Also I do find it a bit telling that nobody will talk about the work. I've been trying to get it there for several pages.

There was no advice given. There was a dissertation of what occured based on an idea that a this and that occured in the PP process. Neither of which to my eye were supported by the SOOC and the Final Edit.

Lets break it down...

You took out all the freckles!

No, I did not.

Innocent bystander...I don't see any freckles in the SOOC that ProProcessor proclaims ARE DEFINITELY there...

ProProcessor...what are you talking about

just curious why you didnt challenge all of those that lauded the photographs to 'talk about the work'?

What was the advice...Point me to it...I might have missed it as advice in all this BS. As for Image #1...can it not stand as it is as a Test for a new lens in that the lens was had less than a week or even a few days to use and develop skills with

What do you have to say about the shot? You think you can do Better?

i think it is a really nice shot. but to be honest, i've seen this shot from lisa hundreds of times. it was really impressive to see her work the first handful of times. but for me this shot literally blends in with just about every other post she makes. there is also something to be said for her amazing ability to remain consistent.

there was a thread a while back (maybe my only positive encounter with lisa) where we talked about how real are our photos. i dont remember the details of the conversation, but it was something to the effect that lisa wanted to get better at taking everyday stuff of her family. i thought that was awesome to see a photographer who mastered this sort of portrait (in this thread) to try to step out of her element and post something that she wasnt comfortable doing. i was hoping to see some of that work here but the post never came. it was more of the same...post after post after post.

This isn't brain damage or unique psychology.

It's an appealing image that provokes a strong feeling of enjoyment to the eye. My eye.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

but airfrog, why didnt you press the people who posted vapid 'amazings' earlier in the thread if you are genuinely interested in this sort of discourse?

She disappointed you. Oh my.

I don't think that diminished her consistency. I think you might have other unresolved issues.

I am a portrait photographer. That's what I enjoy. That's what I think I'm good at. That's how I put food on the table. I do take everyday photos of my kids (and have actually been printing them out and putting them up in my house) but I don't share every personal shot that I take. I share the shots that make me $$.

Ok heres what I think. #1..

Nothing ever looks more red than when its placed against green. (complimentary colors). Also the green in the girls eyes are nicely picked up and highlighted by the green in the background. The wave in her hair and the diaganol line repeats the shape of the leaves on the right side of the frame. The soft background works so well with the soft natural light. Beautiful catch lights in the eyes. I've seen similar things by Lisa but not quite the same use of color though that is one thing she does very well. Most important, this looks like one of her portraits. Many photographer go through entire careers without developing a look or style. She has clearly achieved that. I can tell one of her images without looking at who posted it and that is not an easy thing to do in todays everything looks the same internet world. And if someone is suggesting for her to change something that is one element in the look of her work I would tell her to keep doing what she is doing. Her use of color in this instance and the way she sees light is truly above most of the work I see.

So lets talk about the image.
