A few more from the Hood Canal a short time ago. I'll save the rest for a lull in BE action here on the forum whenever that may be
For those who may have missed the numerous posts.... the GBH were feeding on sclupins that came into the shallows to spawn. The lazy big birds would harass the herons in an effort to get them to drop the sculpins.

Great stuff, Tim.
Even though the big herons are serious predators, I guess nothing smaller than an elephant is "cool" when a large eagle is diving on them with those deadly talons stretched out.
Nice to see the GBH fighting back- although ultimately it might well be the big loser in a real battle.

terrific images! i've never seen a heron and an eagle going at it... the only reason an eagle would go after a heron is to steal a fish. the eagle would certainly not view the heron as food. and while the eagle's talons are fearsome, anyone who's watched a heron strike like a snake with that needle beak knows it could do a lot of damage to the eagle, and very quickly at that!
