I suspect this was the first meal for this chick. As you can see it kept dropping its meal and its parents patiently picked it up and gave it to the chick again. Eventually one of the parents held the fish up for the chick to get a good swallow and then the amazing sight of this little bird eating a fish that appears longer than it is tall. This all took place on Nickerson Beach the morning of Sunday June 23.

Morris what a wonderful set I was wondering if that little chick would eat that entire fish . Amazingly it did !! Fantastic capture of the interaction of the parent teaching it.

These hungry little chicks have been known to eat their body weight in sand, as evidenced by this set. Great sequence Morris! Love the "expression" of the second chick in the last shot.
