p.4 #4 · Warning: DanAnda - Scammer!

I too fell victim of DanAnda's scam. Payed $2350 for 5D Mark III via PayPal. Now waiting for the 10 day waiting period to be refunded my money. I've done some digging here and if you're interested here is the information on him that I have.

p.4 #5 · Warning: DanAnda - Scammer!

Nothing wrong with keeping funds in Paypal. Some feel lack of funds will prevent charge backs. They need to read a little more about how that works and what they agreed upon signup. Just silly.

Anyway I have been scammed on a deal before and I used Paypal and a debit card to pay for the merchandise. Of course as a normal transaction and not a gift. Gift is a gift, not a purchase so that does not have the same protection from what I understand. It was not a FM buy/Sell deal. It was about 10 days before I was to receive the merchandise so they had time to clear out their deposit and run, assuming they had been approved for large deposits. Paypal did a quick investigation, about7- 10 days and sent me my $2950.00. I qualified because I paid in full and it was not a deposit or retainer. They don't cover those , only paid in full deals. They told me it would not matter if the money was still in the persons account or not and did not effect my refund.

Think you will come out OK.

I think the way you and I worked the 1D4 sale/purchase a few years ago went well. You had no feedback, and like 2 or 3 posts. You were willing to talk on the phone and we worked through the deal there. A little paypal hiccup along the way, but we both were patient and worked through it. Sometimes checking into somebody is a good thing, and talking on the phone to get a bit more personal really works, because both parties can get a gut feel on the other person this way.

It won't stop scammers completely, but still a sensible way to do a transaction with somebody that has no real internet persona, to reduce the risk.

I still use that transaction as a model when we have discussions about this elsewhere, and also locally when we have groups that meet about online deals, and are not very internet-savvy.

Does it matter if the seller is unverified?

I'm not suggesting that Paypal is perfect, but what method do you prefer as a buyer and seller?

I would do it immediately. You have enogh information to do so. This is a classic scam as he got a couple of good feedbacks and then go on a rampant sale via wtb ads because now people think he is legit.

Already did and now it's the 10 day waiting game. I was hoping to get the camera in time for Comic Con in 2 weeks

SO I had a LONG texting match with this kid last night. He has no remorse, didn't really think he would but point is, per a screen shot he sent me of his PP account, he is unverified and he says because of this, PayPal will tell us that we won the case, however they are unable to recover funds. Meaning we will all be screwed. I wish I could confirm if this was false but I don't know.

So, where is this kid physically located? Can you confirm his address via Google Earth? by way of Intelius? Through local law enforcement? FWIW, I can recall a transaction I had on another site for something else that shoots, guy gave me a ration of shite about it in terms of a delay in shipping, ya know, hefty reasons, e.g., I stubbed my toe. In that community of "shooters" however there are some very shall we say diligent and efficacious individuals who really know how to knock on doors Having searched out that Seller's address on Google Earth, I suggested to him that he might want to ship out the item within 24 hours of receipt of my email/PM to do that, or I would simply have a dear colleague with the necessary paperwork to show up at his door to "gather it up" for me. It shipped STAT

I'm unfortunately one of the few that has been screwed as well. I hope paypal can and will recover the funds. I was contacted by this guy in POTN as well from my WTB 50L ad. No more WTB ads for me sigh.

Pubtime - I've talked to PayPal support twice, he says that it doesn't matter if he's unverified or if transfered the funds already, we are still covered by the buyer protection in full. Still worries me a lot, but it boosts my confidence in the system a little.

This kid is physically located in Cambridge, Ontario. I could probably figure out where if there is anyone up there would pay our friend a visit

Might be a way of finding him.

I had a similar incident. I used a Credit Card and I was covered. I talked to PayPal about what happens to the seller and I was told PayPal will go after the person, seller, for the money. This can be a collection agency or other methods.

This is why I never pay by gift.

That is silly if anyone actually feels that way. But as for you...

What are the pros of keeping money in Paypal?

Thousands of dollars in my bank earns me interest, does Paypal do that for you?

Using my credit gets extra protection, why not?

Using my credit card increase my reward points and money, does Paypal do that for you?

Using my credit card offers extra warranty of certain things, does Paypal do that?

Could it be the reason PayPal wants you to pay using money from your PayPal account or transfer money to make the PayPal purchase is if you use a Credit Card to pay then PayPal has to pay the Credit Card fee?

You think Paypal is going to send you a check at the end of the month saying "Thank you for saving us money, here is your share...enjoy" by not using credit card?

You should do what is the best business/common sense for yourself, not what Paypal wants.
