Peter, Love this shot of Moskey Basin. I was on Isle Royale in 1985, and witnessed a sort of bird Olympics there. Hundreds of small teals were at the very end of the basin, and they would foot race on top of the glass smooth water in small groups or pairs. The rest of the floating flock would cluck approvingly. Did you do any fishing?

I don't fish - camera gear is enough to carry around - and this was in mid October so hardly a bird on the island as well. We were 5 people on the entire island for a week before the last boat of the year took us back. This was the only sunny day, the rest was rain and snow... hiding in the shelters and not much hiking either. I loved the graffiti on the cabin walls and ceilings, going back well before 1985.

Yeah, we carried EVERYTHING...portaging constantly with canoes, gear and trash. Rock Harbor, Three Mile, Daisy Farm, Moskey Basin, Lake Ritchie, Intermediate Lake, Siskiwit Lake, Chicken Bone Lake etc...all names of places etched permanently into my mind. Our fishing tackle only lasted 3 hours. The northern pike were terrifying...some over 6 feet in length. Two packs of wolves back then, and a full August moon...thanks for triggering the memories.

No canoe - I went on foot from Threemile to Threemile. Planned a full lap around the island but the weather and a fire on the north side cut that short.

More Moskey Basin - a 6 image stitch. Not quite what John can do in Seattle, but given this was in front of my cabin and nobody was within miles to share this with, I had to snap a picture while sipping my instant Starbucks Via coffee - 18-55mm VR again

and a week later back at Threemile, waiting for the ranger to pick us up next morning on his little patrol boat, 7 images stitched, hand-held here

well, there are many reasons why I ask the same question, but a sunrise in Lake Superior isn't going to make me want to move to Michigan I'm more of a mountains guy

shot in RAW with 70-300mm VR on D600 in Nevada

Great shot, Leighton !!

There's some days when I'm racing 50 people to get on the metro before the doors shut ... or lining up for a cab in the rain for three hours that I'd cut off one of my fingers to be transported to your neck of the woods !!

Lovely shot, Monty.

Your B&W's are always so perfect. There's a discussion going on on the MF thread about stickies ... your B&W technique would be a master class.

actually I don't like landscape, I'm not a fan of pano and I'm almost allergic to sunset pictures but I have to say that these ones are really nice

thanks - only the last one was sunset, the others are all morning images, so that particular allergy didn't get triggered too much

I need to re-process all images from that trip - my original output looks a lot more like that straight out of camera image than those posted here.

Love the wet Citroen - I need to get out more when the weather turns bad, but this time of year when it looks like rain around here they also tell you you better hide in the basement because there is a tornado watch in effect...

not a pano, not sunset, not really landscape in nature, but also from Isle Royale with the cheapo 18-55 VR - I never owned a really nice AF lens from Nikon

Some of the folks on the MF side were discussing Silver Efex for B&W conversion. I don't have any B&W's made with MF lenses at the moment but wanted to show some done with AF.

I feel images of old steam trains just have to be viewed in B&W.
