This seems to be irresistibly priced at $9,000 buy-it-now. However, we must also note that the seller accepts offers too.

I reckon it's some sort of a scam attempt. I am 99.99% sure of that.

That same seller had a listing for a NIB 800L (link) that ended at $7,000. Wonder if the winning bidder ever got his lens?

I am in Africa (currently in Uganda) and the 200-400 has been amazing. I have photographed lions, giraffe, various deer species and lots of different birds with it.

I am pretty much keeping the 1.4x iii on it at all times and flipping the switch when I need the full 800mm. So far this method is proving working well.

I received my copy last week and it is just awesome. The fact is that it is so flexible and I have a 200mm to 560mm all in one lens. I am also impressed with the sharpness

Curious why you are using the 200-400 with 1.4 all the time. Did you not take the 600mm?

The main reason would be convenience when going after small birds. The 1dx is awesome at high iso so not too worried about pushing it.

I received mine yesterday. Haven't had much time to test it, and our weather is crazy, but o far I'm not felling the mega buck love... I've been shooting it almost exclusively at 560mm with my 5D3, so it's not a fair comparison, but I'm not having near the success that I have with my 100-400 in similar situations. The 200-400 was front focusing a little so I took a quick stab at correcting that, but I still didn't have a whole lot better luck today.

I'm sure that part of the problem is the size and weight of the 200-400, but I've been using a monopod most of the time. I can wield my 100-400 around hand held like a toy, but the 200-400 is a different story...

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm heading to the race track tomorrow for four days, so I'll get plenty of chance to test it then.

This first attached is uncropped at 560mm, 1/3200 second shutter with a monopod. Second attached is a 100% crop.

I haven't heard anything new from a few Ontario dealers I've been keeping in touch with, for over a month now.
It almost looks like Canon is trying to maintain a high level demand for the lens by not shipping any to Canada.

Either way, my sense is that the time will come (in several months) when they will have to cut a major deal to the consumer before they'd be able to sell any number of those zooms.

That's a very nice way of saying you cornered the Canadian market for the lens

That way they could maintain the profit margin and get the most out of impatient customers

some from africa. some of these are heavily cropped. i had an external 1.4x iii attached at all times. why? well mainly for small birds or wildlife that was far away and i could just flip the switch and get almost 800mm.

the lens is very versatile with some tradeoffs.
