It is not only the limited selection that makes me wonder with that list. It is the omission of the 14-24 that he tested, combined with that he says that the 28-300 would have made it, if it performed as well as on the D800. If the 28-300 is good enough for a high quality list with the D800, we are into the territory of all lenses that are decent but not especially good when stopped down to f/8. I really do not trust him on that the 45 is very good.
+1
if the 28-300 is that good. Then the 14-24 would made it also. And the CV 40

Well, I can definitely say that the 45/2.8AI-P is very very good on the D800. My only optical complaints are the extreme far corners not quite getting sharp and it doesn't like contra light. I don't hesitate to shoot it wide open when the corners don't matter and at f/5.6 or f/8 it's way sharp across 95% of the frame.
My interest in the 40/2 Ultron is due to the extra speed and slightly wider capabilities.

I own the Ultron 40 in Canon mount, and have used it on the 5DII. It does have some spherical aberrations wide open, and some focus shift. Stopped down it is not quite as sharp across the frame as the Canon 40 2.8 STM pancake. Still I regard it as a very good lens at all apertures. I am contemplating getting it in the Nikon mount instead, for my D800E, especially if I cannot find out how to repair my C/Y 35-70.
It has quite a lot of CA, but after software clean up, at f11, the 20 is actually better than expected. I stop down for landscape shots anyway... and even the ZF 35/2 has CA at f11 (but nowhere as much).
Maybe I could take it with me next time I want a WA but don't want to carry the 16-35/4.
