After a storage upgrade, I've been going back and processing some images that I didn't have room for.
Here's a pano of downtown Seattle with the 90/3.5 CV handheld with my D800.
ISO 100, f/5.6, 1/640 sec. Processed to .tif in NX2, then assembled into the pano with PS6 using automerge . . .
Well, the 180/4 CV is going into the shop for a possible infinity stop adjustment, so for now I just have another pano from the waterfront of Seattle. Really I don't do just panos, but the weather has not been cooperating lately to do much else.
Three shot stitch in CS6 at f/5.6, ISO 400, 1/400 sec.
Yes, this one hits infinity and it appears it's still getting slightly sharper. I even put it on my m43 GH-2 + adapter that guarantees infinity focus and it's still acts the same way - it hits the stop without going slightly blurry again like so many of my other Nikkors do.
It will be put on the collimator and checked for infinity focus before being adjusted if needed.
Even in its current condition it's still very even across the frame - which is something I really appreciate AND it does not seem to have any CA.
Martin, how do you like the Ultron 40/2 on the D700? I had the Canon version for the 5D2 and liked it a lot. Thinking about getting it for my new D800... thanks!

There is a reason why apochromatic lenses usually focus beyond infinity -- they have special glass types that are temperature sensitive. I guess that if you set the infinity stop at room temperature, you might not be able to focus to infinity when taking pictures in the baking sun (and you might still focus beyond infinity when shooting in freezing temperatures). My Mamiya 645 200/2.8 APO focuses quite far beyond infinity, but it's perfectly in focus at the infinity mark. The barrel is also painted white so that it doesn't heat up as much in the sun.

It's a nice and sharp lens, but not stellar. Vignetting is brutal at f/2-2.8 and the bokeh gets harsh towards the corners (plus increased DOF). I would not get it for any other reason than smallness. The ZF 35/2 is much better, in my opinion.
Well, I just picked up a used 40/2 SL-II at the local pro shop - tested it Monday and it seemed to be very very good on my D800, so I rounded up some of my unused gear and traded them in on the lens.
I used to own this lens back in my DX D300 days, but sold it just before getting my D700, so I never gave it a chance on FX. It was great on my D300 when I could focus it accurately, which was always a problem on my D300 with any MF lens.
I have the Nikon 45/2.8P which is great, but sometimes a little wider and a little faster is a good thing in a pancake lens . . .
Also, the 180/4 CV is supposed to arrive today from the shop and I'm looking forward to getting that back in action.
