I got my 40/2 Ultron today and found that the CPU is no longer working - though it was certainly when I was using it earlier in the day before I purchased it.

So I need to take it back and either get a refund or have them repair it.

John - have you had a chance to form a detailed opinion on the 180mm f/4 yet?

Ended up getting a refund as they refused to try to get it fixed - only my camera had any issues is seemed, though my D800 works fine with every other AI-P lens I have.

I'll have to pick up another 40/2 some other time . . .

Or you could just remove the CPU and use it as an AI-S lens. I've done this with my 40/2, as well as my ZF.2 35/1.4 and 50/1.4 since they all give completely f*cked up apertures stopped down. If I chose f/2.8 i got like f/2.2 and overexposure. Only wide open and ~f/5.6 or lower gave the real aperture that was chosen.

Yeah - thought about that, but it's so hit or miss with it working - I might as well just buy a new one for $100 more and have a warranty . . . . . The only great thing about this lens is that it seems to be excellent for centering and sharpness - I can only hope a brand new one will be too . . .

Try changing aperture stops on your camera (if it has this option) to 1/2 or even 1 full stop instead of 1/3 default (on Nikons) This may help to achieve more realistic f values.

Great shot Taylor (maybe we should meet up for a CV lens shoot . . ) as well as "trifox". Do you have to use mirror lockup to use that lens?

Got a chance to take the 90/3.5 and 180/4 out tonight for a sunset and some proper tripod-mounted work.

Couple from the 180/4 with a bit of vertical cropping.

That is some cool color in the feathers Jeff.

I plan on using my 90/3.5 and 180/4 on my GH-2 now that I have the F to m43 converter.

Thanks, that is pretty much a default conversion in Capture One 6. The lens is a gem and we're both lucky to have it.

A 4-image pano from last night with the 180/4:

Another image from last night, this time with the 90/3.5 CV SL-II on my D800.

Four image stitch in the portrait orientation. 90mm, ISO 100, f/5.6, 1/1000 sec.

http://www.seanet.com/~hinkey/6-18-2013/Pano4_CV.jpg

The 90 CV is one excellent lens and stands up to the 36MP of the D800 quite well.

Trying to keep this thread going, here's some tight shots using the 180/4 APO.

Is it sharp up close? It seems to be very sharp - at least sharp enough for me for some tight candids hand held with on-board flash. Of course the DOF is very very thin at f/4, 180mm, and 1.5 meters distance . . . .

Way better than I could ever get with my 200/4 AIS . . .

Have not had a chance to use my 90/3.5 CV nor 180/4 CV lately, but I did drag them up into the mountains yesterday. I would like to keep this thread going!

A couple from the 180/4 . . .

Now for something completely different from the 180/4 which is absolutely stunning at MFD:

Bumping this thread up. Not SL/SL-II, but a Voigtlander 90/3.5 APO LTM on the EOS-M. I hope it qualifies...
