p.28 #1 · Sad news - 'Yakim Peled' a dear FM member has died

A week has passed since I heard from a photographer friend about Yakim's tragedy.
Until now, I find it hard to believe that Yakim is no longer alive.

Rest In Peace my friend.

In my view, the best way is to send donations to Yakim's registered and active Paypal address. (He was a site subscriber)
I'm sure his family will have access to the funds in his account.
Fred

That's great, I was worried about how to make sure that the money arrived in the right place.

Be a little bit careful and contact the family beforehand as Paypal accounts usually entails a password and requires signing in. Also I do not know how it works for the family when it comes to a deceased members personal account on PayPal and their attitude or policy towards those funds so lets investigate a little and lets not put the family in an awkward spot. Until accessibility to the funds is guaranteed for the family I think it is best to keep it open. Otherwise the funds might end up in limbo.

p.28 #7 · Sad news - 'Yakim Peled' a dear FM member has died

I remember Yakim from the photo.net days, back in the nineties. His comments were always helpful there, and surely here too. At the time, the Photo.net creator referred to us as being a "community". It seemed like a fanciful word for a group of like-minded individuals communicating in cyber-space. I really didn't understand the true meaning of the word then, but from the outpouring of goodbyes here, and the fact that most of us never met Yakim in person, that word takes on a new meaning for me. We are a community because we help each other, even if some of the comments at times seem to be hurtful. Yakim was a helper, and an upbeat one at that. It's a shame that he isn't here to see how much he was loved and respected. He will be missed.

Wow, that is really sad. I just do not know how someone could go about chatting about lenses and stuff and then take such a dark step in the next few hours?

brain chemistry imbalance, self sacrifice as a provider, there are lots of reasons one might end up on such a road and most of them are probably not what we 1st imagine when we hear the word suicide associated with the passing of a friend.

R.I.P. Yakim Peled. I'll miss reading you as a lurker and chatting with you as an active member.

Nothing yet. For what it's worth, they seem to check their email once a day, very late in the evening.

Thanks, Fred. Just waiting to hear back to verify that she has access to his account. Will update once that is known.

Don't forget PhotoMaximum.

The bold words mean that my donation and condolences were sent to his family, through provided PAYPAL account.

Hi everyone,
Sorry this is taking so long. I can only assume that his family is grieving and not checking messages.
I know that there are many of you eager to help financially and otherwise. A few members are trying to contact his family and as soon I hear back from them I will let everyone know. Please be patience, but we need to verify that the funds will in fact end up with his intended beneficiaries.
If anyone has his wife's phone number, please PM it to me. I would like to contact her personally.
Fred

I know Yakim from a Israeli forum (d-spot), and I would like to join the act of helping the family financially.

Did anyone try to call the number Amnon left on the d-spot forum for whoever wanted more information?

I'm shocked and saddened to hear this. My heart goes out to his family, may they find the strength to carry on, may they always remember they're stronger together, and may they find peace some day. I considered Yakim a friend, and I'll miss him very much. I'll see you on the other side, Yakim.

I lost my husband half a year ago, he took his life during cortisone-induced psychosis, totally out of the blue and for no reason save chemical imbalances. You never know.

I have 2 concerns:

1. I'm not sure that the widow, Nurith, is willing to accept donations. Most probably she does, but there's no assurance.
2. More importantly - The inheritance laws in Israel are complicated, especially in the absence of a Will (which I'm not even sure that is the case). As a consequence, while the PayPal funds end up landing in Yakim's Bank Account, I'm not sure they will be available immediately to/for his widow, until some court procedures are completed - and that may take in Israel 6 months on the average.

So, before rushing to PayPal, I'd advise that the BEST method will be to ask Nurith for a Bank Account to which she has access.

I have emailed (PM'ed) Fred his private home phone to talk to her privately, and to the best of my knowledge, it was active a month ago.

Okay, this sounds like the best plan then. Let's all sit back and wait for Fred to contact Yakim's wife. It wouldn't help the family if multiple people contact them all the time.

I am not sure about Israel laws of course about inheritance, but it seems to me the best to NOT transfer money to any account belonging to Yakim (including his PayPal), but to an account belonging to his wife anyway. Since we already know Yakim lost his job and openly discussed with us he had financial troubles I would not like the idea that some kind of authority (tax a.o) would take a great part, or all, of the collected money because they have some kind of financial claim. In my opinion the money collected is meant for Yakim's wife and children and the best way to ensure that is to transfer it directly to them. It also makes sure that Yakim's widow and children are willing to accept the donations. I hope Fred, Carsten and Roli are able to work things out in a proper way.
