Jman13;
From experience I know that you can never really tell until after the fact. Sometimes you can, if someone is "down" for a long time and not very responsive and suddenly "withdrawn". Others keep up a good front and can even seem happier than usual.
Maybe because they have "decided" and when they have, it will be a form of relief for them.
In my (thankfully limited) personal experience the people who went that route did it "suddenly" and in the one case I think about often it was a very much loved person with a lot of friends, a brother and a caring family.
Still he never felt truly at home in this world and felt "lost" I guess. As a service to the family and friends I made copies of pictures with him in them and it was very sad to go through the photos. Up until his suicide everything was normal and he was "calm" if you may say so, and seemed happy.
With Yakim I don't know, part of me wishes to know why. He had other issues some of which he was quite open with and that he seemed to take in good stride. Maybe it was an avalanche of reality and expectations that bore down on him and eventually got the better of him.
I hope his family comes through this, really. When someone is hurting to the point he chooses to depart from life and family you know it must be a decision that is so hard to make that you probably cannot imagine just how hard until you've been there.

Continuing to read through this thread, I am amazed at the amount of emotion I am feeling and I am overwhelmed that these feelings seem to be shared by all of us.
I realize now that I would feel the same way about all of you, even though I only lurk here once in a while now.
Why do we not take the chance to express our love and appreciation for others more often?
Stay strong, everyone. Life is short.
Life is indeed short. Tragedy always puts things in perspective. I feel for his family. I am recovering from the gut wrenching one-two punch of losing my dad and older brother. Everything changes, gravity, emotion, color, the works. It takes time to realize death means gone forever. Silly little things can no longer be shared. Obvioulsy I am a visual person. Memories of my family are like little movies and instant photographs, stored in the back of my mind. Every now and then its nice to retrieve one and play it in my head and smile. Hopefully Yakim's family will soon get to the point where the shock is mitigated and the wonderful memories take center stage...

I think it's normal especially for some who have been on these forums for a long time. Sometimes we agree, some other times we argue and we are mean to each other, but at the end, this is what human relation is all about.
