Beautiful warm golden light in the first one Tim and very nice ones of it strutting back and forward. Lovely perch and pose for the Swallow and again for the SJ.
There is a very nice glow off the breast of the Swallow too.

Thank you Martin! I headed out in hopes of getting some rails, having him on the log was a gift from nature

Superb Rail fare buddy, the eye contact is outstanding and adds so much to these beauties
Nice to see the Barn's showing up to the party (seeing a ton of the Tree variety this year) and this one gave you a fine pose on a very cool perch Scrubby looks interested in something and grats for getting this one bro, they STILL elude me
You got me longing to get in the boat Tim
Tom
We have to get out on the lake Tom, the Rails are quite sociable right now I had to go to Ridgefield to get the SJ at least he posed nicely for me
Thanks for the good words Bro and it's great to hear from you.
I'm going with # 2 as my top pick, while I hear the owl outside the window. Too bad it's pitch black outside & I know I can't even open the door & the bird will be quiet or gone....

Somehow very late to this party- but glad to get here.
These are all super shots, Tim.
As a series, though, the rail images tell a quiet but important story.

Wow that first light on the VR is gorgeous Tim... 2 and 3 are both terrific captures with great head angles... 3 wins top prize for me.
Another fantastic BS on a cool perch... really nice portrait buddy.
Good looking Scrub Jay in later than first light, he looks good against that beautiful blue sky.
Top notch set with excellent techs as always... man those VR's are excellent.
Kirk
Thanks so much Kirk. I went out that morning with getting rails at first light as my goal. I had limited success but what I got I liked The swallows were an added treat that day and most cooperative I must say.

Nice Yak vantage point Tim. That is pretty amazing to have the Rail step out and do the log walk for you
You are never short of tremendous details and sharpness my friend, spot on again. Just a thought with these subjectes that are parallel to the camera, they tend to not show much 3-D feel, what do you think about darkening the BG a bit more to give more depth or modeling to the subject?? Had to find something to nit at you with
Barn Swallow is giving you a nice look, for me the cattail just has too much sharpness and takes a bit from the bird. I like to reduce contrast or slightly soften these up, this one is just a bit harsh to me.
I sure can't find fault with the Scrubby bird, very very nicely presented overall A truely great look to this one Tim
I saw that log, it wasn't there last year, in a spot where these guys were swimming around last year. I was sooooooooooooo hoping one would venture out on it. Once he did he seemed to like the view
Hmm, 3d. Something to keep in mind. With the log I was hoping for good separation from the bg. Darken the bg, I did!!! Sound familiar Really I did tone it down some. Those reeds are unforgiving in direct light.
I would agree with the cattail, I'll keep that tip in mind next time
Ah the jay. I missed him at first, lucky for me I had my dear sweet spotter with me to point out that I drove right past him
