Variety is the spice of life my friend...and oh yeah, the first looks like he's ready for a Capt. Morgan spiced rum ad. Cool series Tim, the pose of the first and that lovely coloration of the male bluebird top my picks...but only because the subtle beauty of the others is well...subtle

Not currently on my good monitor but I see things that I like and respect in each one Tim and I certainly don't see a bad one in the bunch

Last one is stunning as is the first one. I am curious on your feelings with the new technology with VerII glass and VerIII TC's, have they instilled confidence in you? We know the quality of light can bring a big variance in the visual results to an image so sometimes difficult for direct comparisons.

A good photographer can get the most out of good/great gear, you certainly have all the tools to harmonize with my friend

Tim, nice work I'm probably wierd but I liked the last one with the female Bluebird the best. Great lighting and the surrounding plants made it come out special for me. Thanks for posting!

Yes indeed it is Eric Love the Capt Morgan comment I hadn't thought of that and now I can't get it out of my head. Thanks for that, I owe you

Great to hear Karl, for my sake don't look on them on a better monitor

To answer your question.... I really am blown away with v2/v3 combo, more so with the 2x than the 1.4. With the 500 2 the 1.4 3 is pretty quick to focus, the 2x 3 focuses which is much more than I can say about the 2x 2 on the 500 classic. I have shot some IF with the 500 2/ 2x 3 but it isn't easy and to be honest it's a pretty poor setup. The bare 500 2 is a stunner of a lens, Canon's charts demonstrate how much sharper it is corner to corner than the 600 2 and the 800. If I had to choose one I would still choose the 800 but the addition of the 500 s and tc's is one hell of a bag of tricks to have. As for as performance on stationary subjects... 500 2/ 1.4 3 better than the older stuff, mostly quicker focus and less of any distortions. The same can be said for the 500 2 / 2x 3 with the addition of the 2x 3 produces brighter images, sharper images, highly acceptable images. I exchanged a hell of a lot of gear to get the new setups and I'm really glad I did. If I had it all to do again I would. As good as the mk3 tc's are bare lenses still beat the pants off of them but they are a giant step forward combined with the mk2 super tele's. As a side note the 800/ 1.4 3 isn't noticeably different, slow focus but sharp focus. I hope I answered your question.

Thanks Karl

Nothing weird about it John, I like that one so much I'm planning on heading back to get more like that. I find those birds to be sooooo beautiful, combine that with natural perches and they rock.

Thanks

Great set, Tim. Hard to pick a favorite from this fine group of images, but I'll go with #5. Great pose, nice light, terrific detail, and the tail feathers stayed in front of the neighboring plant - bonus!

Enjoyed each one of the set, Tim, but the last one stands out to me as you have some natural elements in the frame that are really add complementary color, interest and some depth to the image. Great work all around!
