Great set, Tim. Hard to pick a favorite from this fine group of images, but I'll go with #5. Great pose, nice light, terrific detail, and the tail feathers stayed in front of the neighboring plant - bonus!

Enjoyed each one of the set, Tim, but the last one stands out to me as you have some natural elements in the frame that are really add complementary color, interest and some depth to the image. Great work all around!
Thanks for the nice words and the thoughtful comment Mitesh!

You did a great job as usual Tim. I'm still seeing canon gear, what changed?
Morris
Thank you Morris. By different gear I meant that all of these images were not taken with the same body/lens combo. The 500mm f4 IS L mk2 and the 1.4/2x tc mk3's are all new to me.
1 1D X 500 mk2 / 2x mk3
2 1D X 800 mm
3 1D X 500mk2 / 1.4x mk3
4 1D X 800 mm
5 1D X 500 mk2
Awesome images. I enjoyed reading your observations about the supertelel's. i really do miss the 500 ii and may days go back and forth about getting another one. For now ill roll w/ the 600.2
Looks like the new glass and TC's give you a lot of excellent combinations Tim, which will prove useful on many occasions.
But IMHO, they still don't beat the very impressive IQ of the bare 800... case in point is the Male BB in this series.
Beautiful light and pose of the DCC yearling in #1, and the bare 500 aimed at the female BB in the last is just gorgeous buddy against that terrific BG, love it.
Terrific set Tim... love those BB's.
Great job, Tim! Any combo in your hands works great The all have a great IQ and it would be impossible to tell which one was taken with which combo.
A job well done!

Great to hear Karl, for my sake don't look on them on a better monitor
To answer your question.... I really am blown away with v2/v3 combo, more so with the 2x than the 1.4. With the 500 2 the 1.4 3 is pretty quick to focus, the 2x 3 focuses which is much more than I can say about the 2x 2 on the 500 classic. I have shot some IF with the 500 2/ 2x 3 but it isn't easy and to be honest it's a pretty poor setup. The bare 500 2 is a stunner of a lens, Canon's charts demonstrate how much sharper it is corner to corner than the 600 2 and the 800. If I had to choose one I would still choose the 800 but the addition of the 500 s and tc's is one hell of a bag of tricks to have. As for as performance on stationary subjects... 500 2/ 1.4 3 better than the older stuff, mostly quicker focus and less of any distortions. The same can be said for the 500 2 / 2x 3 with the addition of the 2x 3 produces brighter images, sharper images, highly acceptable images. I exchanged a hell of a lot of gear to get the new setups and I'm really glad I did. If I had it all to do again I would. As good as the mk3 tc's are bare lenses still beat the pants off of them but they are a giant step forward combined with the mk2 super tele's. As a side note the 800/ 1.4 3 isn't noticeably different, slow focus but sharp focus. I hope I answered your question.
Correction As a side note the 800/ 1.4 3 isn't noticeably different, slow focus but sharp focus.
