Auto ISO isn't something I've used much to date so the 900 threw me off. Probably something I need to get on board with since with all those densely packed pixels long lenses will be temperamental about shutter speed. Not bad for a 200-400 with 1.7, I tried that TC once when I had a 200-400 and didn't get that good of results!
RRRoger: the D7100 will AF in extremely low light, identical to the 800/800E. No worries there.

With my old D7K I never had any (back)focusing issues with either the 18-200mmDX or 70-200mmVRII lenses. However the 17-55mmDX2.8 lens always required an AF Fine Tune adjustment of about minus-15 on the D7K. What was interesting too, for comparison, was that same 17-55mm lens required no adjustments on the D300s. All that said, I just ran through several test shots using my new D7100 with the 17-55mm lens and everything appears to be spot on as far as focus point. So it appears that the (back focusing) problem has been fixed for my lens anyway.

Granted it's a nitpick, but what is up with Nikon not having an LCD cover for this cam?! Are people just buying third party LCD protectors and installing?

Perhaps it's hardened glass and no protectors needed anymore (D4).
BTW it's the first thing I throw away with a new cam.

Thanks Ektar25, talked to Casey over there and picked up the body and the 80-400 to go with......nice people to deal with.
Would love to hear your first impressions of the 80-400... I am almost drooling over it. The 200-400 is a beautiful lens but it's just not as portable.

There are plenty of them everywhere except Monterey Bay.
I had to drive to San Jose Camera to get one for tomorrows Event.
Lucky they had a camera only in stock as I don't want anymore
DX lens.
I will be testing the stills under Mercury Vapor lights and sun coming into the sides of a barn tomorrow.
This is the ultimate (cruel) test as only the D800 has given me much that was useable at this location.
I wonder what the best White Balance will be?
The camera shop had the same lights and each white wall gave me a different color hue.

The problem with Hg vapor light is it isn't a complete spectrum. Where fluorescent and tungstun is a complete spectrum, just has a weird cast, the Hg lights is only a partial spectrum. That's why it's so tough and open to interpretation by software. Also explains why I've not seen a preset AWB for it yet.

You can cheat and edit the EXIF in the D7100 raw files. Change the tag "camera model" from "D7100" to "D5200", and they open in the latest ACR (and LR) versions just fine.
Mine have 2 dust spots on the sensor. One I can faintly see but one is very visible around f8. Not sure if it is dust or oil though. Tried blowing it out with the rocket blower but they do not move. Anyone getting a clean copy?
