sorry all shot on film. couldn't get an extension cord long enough to charge the batteries for the time spent in these places. also all of the dates preclude digital by a few years. all except one reqd packing in for multiple days. o god i miss it
I've been watching the discussion of "brush" releasing the clamp with some amusement. I ride my mountain bike almost daily, and even when I have had the clamps pretty loose they have never come loose going through brush at 25 MPH.
I would however love to see the people worried about this do a test by running at 25 MPH through thick brush with a MKII/300 2.8 mounted on a RRS head. Is this really a concern? Are people using their tripod assembly as a machete in thickets?
Any product can be made to fail. Many times the failure is not the result of poor design, but rather poor judgement.
I *hope* you have your QR levers oriented towards the back of the bike. Just for grins, try reversing them so they're pointed towards the front, ride that way for a few months, and report back.
O.K.... Can you tell the "ballhead gods" to bring the sun back out in Northern Chicago Every damn time I go out to use the Sigma 600 f/8 Mirror the clouds come out!

These are beautiful. The only thing better than looking at them would be to have the memory of being there, taking them!

I guess I am a little colored by the fact that, after having spent a significant chunk of cash on a Gitzo CF tripod, leveling base, Arca-Swiss type ballhead (Acratech), and RRS mounting plates, my pictures are not at least 5 times better than they were when I was using a Bogen 3001N and a 484RC2 ballhead. !

I'm just not seeing how when walking w/ camera/lens mounted to tripod, holding it over your shoulder, something is going to snag that one place at the right angle in order to pop open the clamp.
C'mon, it's just too paranoid of an outlook for me. I know I gotta get out of bed in the morning, come what may in the day. And I know that something could happen to my gear everytime I use it - but I'm the biggest variable, personally, in determining what happens in both cases. I'll just accept responsibility for the outcome of my actions, and hope that I don't run into any self-aware, mobile and malevolent denizens of the landscape.
