One of the things I appreciate the most about mine is that it is correctly focused at infinity when I rotate the focus ring all the way to infinity! This is pretty desirable at the darkest place for miles on a moonless night at 2:00am!
This can not be said for many other much more expensive lenses.
here's one I corrected with the D700/Rokinon 14mm lens profile you can get with the Adoble lens profile downloader app (shot with D600 through some dirty glass with some glare on the edges)
I've been meaning to post these for a while. I took a trip down to Anchorage from Fairbanks a few weeks ago and decided to take the long way home to drive the Glenn Highway and see this glacier. I was in a hurry but I managed to grab a few decent shots. Glaciel water is delicious!
I took the 14 out for a test drive and after looking at the results I realized I treated it as a normal focal length. I need to concentrate more on W I D E.
The chip gives you ability to shoot in P and S modes, lens data in EXIF, aperture control from body, convenience in not having to switch between non-CPU lenses, metering with low-end bodies.
Also I don't think there is 14mm non-CPU preset on Nikon bodies. You have to use 13 or 15mm which mean (in theory) less precise exposure calculation.

None of these is a big deal though.
Went ahead and got the AE version. With the $50 credit from Dpreview my grand total was $319, with Free 2-day shipping since it's basically via Amazon, not bad at all.
I got a version with no chip and later on saw the deal and got the one with chip. My copy of the non-chip is lens is sharper than the chip lens, noticeably. So I returned the chip lens.
