Thanks, I have to keep reminding myself that I have video...I would have been ticked off if I had forgotten the DSLR could do this....the sound is haunting!

You got your 'Hoots' looking mighty fine Eric, nice exposures and presentation on the set!
Karl
That's my friend. These hooters were mighty fine to spend many hours with and again I practiced what my tutors taught me about manual exposure....that saved my photographic bacon.

Well done , did you have a platform at nest level? Alan
Thanks Alan....no platform at all. The nest was at least 40 feet up and I was able to stand and get those shots from probably 80 feet away shooting up. The male would spend time in a tree near where I was shooting from to get the nest and mom. He would follow me around with his eyes but was very tolerant. His perch was maybe 20' up in the V of the tree. I would go back and forth making sure to give them lots of alone time...while I can't be certain my presence didn't upset them it didn't appear so. The owlets would peer over the nest to get a good look at me but I never felt mom or dad feeling particularly threatened.

4 & 7. #1 is neat also; all jammed together. Never witnessed them hooting; just hear them. Nice find. Don
Thanks Don...that was a special moment to have the male hoot "at" me. I would have loved to stay around to see them fledge but it was not to be as it was maybe a week or so after I left.

Good looking boids Eric. Would be tres cool to see that.
Thanks Kenny....it was my first real experience spending that much time with owls...I couldn't wait for the morning to see what they were up to...it's very different when you know where to find them and aren't spending hours on the search. But we did follow the male on a hunt one late evening but it got too dark and dangerous to be out....mountain lion country!

Some real beauties you're sharing with us, Eric.
And thanks for that.
Ah, but to be there and capture them yourself- that was a really big deal.
