Went back today to my favorite old time cemetery under slightly different lighting conditions -- veiled sunlight, instead of drizzly overcast. I wanted to redo a few shots, and that effort expanded to a few others.
Okay, I am happier.
It is a fun lens, and it does look cool, especially after some PP get the center to match the edges. I avoided using the lens profile in LR, so the vignetting and distortion is more like it comes OOC.
All shots at 1Ds3, ISO 100, f/2.8, 3.2, 3.5, 4.5, or 5.6. In other words, everything from 2.8 to 5.6.
I am going to post some images, so don't kill me for posting a question here, but I thought what better place to ask a question about 40/2.8 than on a thread where everyone has one.
I just received mine in the mail. When I mount it on my 7D, the lens mount fits VERY tight. It's a way tighter fit than any lens I have ever owned or used. Every other lens I have ever used, when attaching to camera, I turn it to snap it into place and it slides smoothly into place and then once in place is firm with no wiggling. This lens completely different, I begin to twist it into place and it feels so tight that I actually have to use more force than I am comfortable with - it does not twist into place smoothly at all!!
I've noticed mine is a nice, snug fit. Never thought about it until now but I believe it is tighter than my other lenses. I don't know if it is as tight as you are describing though.
I love this lens for landscapes. The focal length seems to hit a sweet spot between the wide and tele end for me. I use it with my 5DIII and 7D and am always amazed by the details in the corners when stopped down. The 40mm pancake is a rare bargain in a sea of very expensive gear!

It hits a sweet spot because it is just shy of the sensor size dead normal FL (43mm). I love it as well-removed any desire for adapting a 45mm F 2.8 Nikkor, or getting a CV 40mm F 2.0 (lot cheaper as well)
