Thursday night my next astro workshop was getting launched on teh innerwebs so I decided to skip the excitement and go shoot some astro. This taken on Godley head about 10-15min drive from home (when I live there..). Facebook went down for 23 minutes at the exact time I shot these frames ! ( 3 rows of 7 images).
Saturday was the shortest day of the year, I decided to head out to a place I've wanted to shoot sunrise for ages, its a fair hike in the dark though. The sunrise wasnt the best but still a few frames turned out ok. This one seems to be quite popular on fb...

It's a nice shot, well done and thanks for getting yourself out of bed and there for it!
The 'equinox' is when the day and night are of equal length - when the earth is back on a level axis before it starts 'wobbling' the other way.
The 'Winter Solstice' is what you saw, when the wobble is at its furthest away from the sun for us Southern Hemispherians, the shortest day. We get a nice pause (of 7am sunrises here in Sydney) before the long journey back begins.
Here's another one from the, ahem, solstice Untitled
