Was considering upgrading my camera body now that the prices are starting to come down a bit. My question is for those that know...Is the AF of the 5D Mark III as good or better than the 1Ds Mark III?
Thanks, Bill
For landscapes, portraits - 1DsMK3 (colors, real resolution)
For wildlife - 5DMK3 will have edge (thanks to AF/ISO)
Choice is yours. 1DsMK3 AF is ok, high ISO isnt as good as on 5DMK3, but depends if you really need it or not.. My choice would be easy. 1D class is simply 1st class.

That's what I'm curious about too...how's the 5DMK3's sensor stack up against the 1DsMK3's?

Everything I know of is stacking up against 1DsMK3 and 1DMK3 colors badly. Except Sony A900. And thats pretty much all.
Canon put best AA filter and best CFA inside 1D/s MK3. Its not for free, is expensive literally and price is in high ISO, cause better AA and CFA you have, less noise can hide and obviously, very dense and good CFA robs you of a bit of light (whole CFA/AA/UVIR usually robs you of 2/3 - 1eV). I think 5DMK3 is simply utility/performance package and 1DsMK3 is highest quality at all cost. Frankly I think 1DsMK3 has pretty decent AF and ISO isnt somewhat terrible, if you really dont need to shoot at ISO 1600 and higher.
If I wanted something thats mix of both I would probably try 1DMK4.
But thats me and I would choose 1Ds MK3 cause its 1D class and cause it gives me best quality from Canon at low ISO.
http://www.pebbleplace.com/Personal/Start.html This guy shoots 1DsMK3 along with Leica gear. And I think some of his 1DsMK3 pics really show its strengths. Even tho he gets this colors cause he has custom color profiling, its still "proof" cause you need good colors from camera to start with.
Tho truth is I prefer to have great colors, good DR and good real resolution (thats based on AA not mpix only) and dont care much about ISO. So it might be just me.

Thanks tremendously for your input. I, like you, prefer colors, contrast, DR, and resolution to extremely high ISO's.
