Jim, based on the first shot we must have been standing feet apart at that time
Stan -- That is too funny! Ha-ha! I had hitched a ride on the back of that broken down truck (battery failed/drained), all the way from the middle of the rise on Manchester Blvd. to that point. We had been stopped as the Shuttle maneuvered around the large building/curve -- when they tried to start up, the battery was discharged. I got off at that point. That was a contractor tasked with washing the Shuttle in case it became besmirched. I must have just gotten off the truck when you shot your second shot. You might be able to see your head in my second sequential shot here.
Yes, we must have seen each other a hundred times the night before, and until we got to the top of hill here. At that point I grew bored with the next delay, and when the shuttle neared the crest, I grabbed a few shots and moved on down Crenshaw (and waited indefinitely!) hoping to get a shot there. I then went to the Baldwin Hills Center and got shots of the Shuttle welcoming event there (which didn't arrived until the middle of night, or something crazy).
Note the guy standing in the bed of the white pickup, near center. Obviously taken within seconds of the shot you posted, with you standing a little to my left and a few feet closer to the Shuttle! I was still in the back bed of the truck, about two feet above the street level.
Mt St Helens, taken January of 2012, Canon 1DSIII, Canon 45mm Tilt Sift lens, 3 frames stitched. My favorite this year due to the sky colors, the sun had just set which created color transition in the sky from magenta to orange (left to right).
