Spring is here, and the Mini got some new tires to break in, so time for a drive into the country and a chance to give some rarely used lenses a workout.
nice looking R56 - I've been contemplating to get a turbo into the family, and now that my son is getting his license and wants a Mini, that may just happen, although I do prefer the 2005/06 R53. Nice examples of that era are getting harder and harder to find, though. I was really lucky with the one I have. It cost me less than a 600mm f/4 VR goes for used, and it came with a bunch of really nice mods I would have done myself anyway.
Thanks. There is something about the whine of a supercharger that is quite intoxicating...and yeah, they are getting hard to find, I would not mind having a GP version...but that is even harder to find.
GPs are nice if you don't want to mod things, but they demand a collector car price, which I don't care to pay. A 2006 JCW maybe, as a good starting platform, and only for the better cylinder head and larger injectors. Everything else on those cars isn't worth paying extra for over the regular S. Thing is, JCW owners want to get $3 or $4k more for them than a nice regular S, and with that money I can build a much better Mini than a JCW ever was.
