Went through this entire thread a few times and honestly, no offence to the monkey and 4mpx, but those bird shots are getting boring.
Cannot wait to get this lens this weekend. You'll be seeing LOTS of stuff from me once the wedding season starts.... Not a single one of them will be a bird
granted it is a pretty picture and quite personal. everyone does what they do. but tell me was a 200/2 really needed for that shot? did that really make the difference in the composition? I think not.

Which photo are we talking about here? I interpret composition to be related to focal length, so yes the composition at the same spot with a 200mm 4.0 lens will be the same as a 200mm at F2.0, but the rest of the image reproduction will be quite different. Otherwise, I agree, you definitely don't need a F2.0 lens if you just want to compose images at 200mm, there are cheaper ways of getting images at that focal length.

using 20ft as the mark
at f2.0 you DOF is 0.35ft
19.8 to 20.2'
at f2.8 your DOF is 0.5ft
19.8 to 20.3'
at f4.0 your DOF is 0.71ft
19.7-20.4'
get closer it shrinks further it grows
please explain compositionally how it would be different.

It wouldn't be compositionally different, that is my point. Regardless of the DOF, all images from a 200mm focal length lens taken a the same point will compose (i.e., constitute) the same objects/subject.
