Used my recently aquired 200 VR 1 for its first test session in the park this weekend. Time will tell if it becomes a permanent part of my toolkit. I have to bring out my 180mm 2.8 more often to see if the differences are worth the trade off in usability/practicability for me.
I wish I recorded the conversation I had with my wife. First I asked if I could buy the lens on my birthday. I then made this big case that I wanted to capture moments of our first child in ways only the 200mm f/2 could and that it would be well worth it. I also promised I would sell it if we were ever in a jam. When she asked me how much it cost I more less mumbled the cost and the look on her face was priceless. Needless to say it was a funny conversation.

I had a similar conversation with my wife. I mean, a photo like this of your kids is ... priceless (or, roughly $6,000 if you force me to put a pricetag on it).
my wife is luckily supportive of my amateur photography habit. she doesn't spend much money, but will always spend money on pictures. what i really should do is take some classes versus buy more gear, but that's not as fun

hey catz, I remember when you were mulling over the 200/2 purchase at the DPR forum. I was one of the guys who were trying to push you over the edge Of all the lenses I've sold, I would most likely never sell this one.

, You basically laid out the blueprint for me which I still appreciate, thanks again. Almost a year later and I'm still in love. For portrait photography if I could only have two lenses to shoot with it would be the 200mm f/2 and the 58mm 1.4. Both lenses are not super versatile but they both yield amazing unique results.
