Thinking about taking the plunge with a used VR1 version of this lens on a D750, curious about the working distance with head and shoulders shots, full body shots and images like the car in the flower field on the previous page. Maybe I need to rent one and test in the field. I shoot lots of automotive, but I want to do more paid portrait work. Thanks in advance.

HI Chris
I think the 200 F2 can work really well for automotive, as long as you have the space of course. I was fortunate to have plenty of space for the old Humber shots and on reflection I wish I had experimented with backing up further. I find the subject isolation within a landscape context to be an attractive quality.
Do you have any other 200 focal length lenses? even without the F2 loveliness you can get an idea of distances involved for the framing that interests you.
Be careful with renting, you know you're playing with fire right?

I had the 70-200, but I can't remember the specifics, sold it last summer. I'm hesitant to rent because I'm sure its going to make this a must have. Right now 85mm is my longest lens, tough to get s sense of things from there.
Just picked a chubby of my own up from a fellow FM member here. No shots yet just a bush test shot when I met up to get the lens. Looking forward to shooting a lot with it
Does anyone have any suggestions for a different case that will fit the lens and a body but doesn't scream "steal my $5000 lens"?
Even with TC's, the 200 f2 destroys BG's...oh so well
This was taken in an industrial park, amidst a "cotton" snow storm...
one wouldn't reasonably expect to come away with this IQ SOOC.

Sure, TT Glass Taxi...very comfortable backpack that holds the Chub
with body AND hood in shooting position.

Thank you kindly, Rob. A lot of patience/planning to get "in flights" of these lil suckers.
The keeper rate is embarrassing, compared to most BIF ops. Once in awhile I'm rewarded.
Used my recently aquired 200 VR 1 for its first test session in the park this weekend. Time will tell if it becomes a permanent part of my toolkit. I have to bring out my 180mm 2.8 more often to see if the differences are worth the trade off in usability/practicability for me.
Exactly lol. Tried something a little different today added a 20mm ext tube and tried some macro out with my GH4 and metabones speed booster with the 200mm f2
