Although I have to admit a few pages in this thread were skipped, it was by and far no waste of time in the least. Wonderful work everyone! I've always pondered this lens for my wife's line, mainly, but now fairly certain it will soon be a part "our" family. Awesome!
A pack of new photos from my manual 200/2.0 ED-IF AiS. These are all shot wide open. If you like them, look through the topic I created for the 200/2.0 AiS: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1284875/
Fantastic images. I've been lusting after this lens for years. Just picked up a 200/2 AIS like new and should be receiving it in a few days. Cant wait to post here and in the ais threads...

No offense, but as someone who sold 135/2 DC for 200/2 AiS I can guarantee the 200/2 AiS is superior in every way. Without AF the 135/2 wouldn't even be in the same league. But I agree on the weight part, that can be a disadvantage. I for one love how heavy the 200/2 AiS is
Of course they're both amazing and if someone switches let's say from 50/1.4, they'll be blown away by either of them.

The 200/2 VR II blows away the 135/2 DC. Also blows away the Zeiss 135/2 APO Sonnar to a lesser degree (but mostly because of the AF).
Weight? If you really love photography and you have a 200/2, you will work out and get stronger to handle it. Else you really don't love photography enough to own a 200/2, in my opinion.

You don't need to tell me that, I wasn't the one suggesting 135/2 DC is a sufficient alternative to 200/2 And I don't think it's heavy at all, unless you're 60 with arthritis

I have the canon 135/2 on my A7r and have been extremely pleased with the combo. I've tried the 135dc and it was soft wide open. Perhaps it was just my copy. Not to mention the LoCA.
However after seeing brodik's excellent shots I decided to go with the 200/2 ais to use on my nikon body as I loved the look and bokeh in his images. Moreover VR versions are much more expensive. I have 30 days to try and return the lens (got it from adorama) if I dont like it for some reason. I purchased this lens to use on specific portrait assignments.

First of all thanks a lot for the compliments! And I have to second your experience with the 135 DC. I shoot 95% of my photos wide open and it was totally unusable that way. My Samyang 85 was sharper at f/1.4 than the 135 DC at f/2.8. And don't even remind me of the LoCA. Also after a year shooting only manual focus I was happy to finally catch a break with an AF lens, but the AF was so slow and inaccurate I used it in MF anyway. The switch to 200/2 was the best decision I've made
